DOUBLE JOY FOR YEWS
YEWS (3) 6 -1 (0) TROWBRIDGE ATH
The pre-match talking of getting off and out thier asses and putting on a footballing show finally Happened!! and this win softened the defeat against ASDA last week.Player-boss js Glasson rang the changes to freshen up a side who were to comfortbale in position and not on the ball. Mark wallis and player-coach Martin Read were sacrifised as the boss resorted to a 4-4-1-1 with Portuguese star Da Silva pairing up with Rory Kelly in the middle and Andy Pringle beginning to show a good undertanding with Chantly in central defence.
Visitors Trowbridge ath turned up determined to sort thier season out and are in a simular run of form like thier hosts. Having beat fellow basement boys Sureset 6-0 a week ago they suffered a 3-2 defeat to Nomads last Thursay and needed a win to steady thier ship too.And it was the Trow who started the game at tempo and caught a unsettled Yews napping , only Pringle was alert enough just to nip the ball out of danger for Goalkeeper Makwana to clear upfield. After the initial threat from Trowbridge, Glassons Outfit began to creep up the field, and created thier first chance when Kelly latched onto a Chantly clearance and found Mikey Payne who shot narrowly wide. Kelly whoes dip in form of late, carved out the penalty decision, his long ball foward to Glasson down the left flank fell in the box and the rightback tried shielding the ball away from Glasson but handballed the bounce. kelly duly took responsibility and buried it home for the home side. Five minutes later it was two nil Left back Mark self whoes been consistant all season jinxed his way upfield before lobbing it foward to Glasson. The welsh veteran harried the nervy right back into clearing it as far as Rory Kelly who split the defence with a def return throughball . Glasson collected the ball and shot just inside the box, the keeper parried it away for a corner, but Glasson beat the ball to the line and tapped in his seasonal fifth goal.2-0. Trowbridge responsed well and at times played the ball around and were good with thier crosses and free-kicks. But the lack of a quality Shooter and a strong back four they could not break down the Yews . w improving goalKeeper Alex Makwana , who was harbourering a shoulder injury was finally brought into play ,Left back Mark Self beaten down the right flank needed his keeper to be brave.Makwana sensed the danger and dived at the strikers feet . This superb save saw him clash with a striker and gingerly got up .giving his boss a little bit of concern. But Makwana made two more vital saves minutes later. Goal number three came from a throw in decision, Refereee George Hill deciding it was a Homeside ball and while the viistors stood and argued, Right winger Romain cantered upfield with S Green and Mike Payne in attenedance, Romain swang in a cross which left the Trowbridge keeper stranded and Stuart Green volleyed in from close range.Player-boss Glasson should have had a second as he breezed passed a static defence and collected Paynes pass but rather than take a touch he scooped his shot wide.
Stuart green then finished off the first half with a 18 yard stinging volley that the keeper tipped onto the crossbar and out for a corner that was not given.... The Second half Trowbridge had changed things around and like the first half had a ten minute spell were they should have scored two very easy goals. Trowbridge however did break the Yews defence and brought themsleves back into the game. Two minutes later the Yews Mikey Payne finally managed to outpace his marker and the linesman who was giving him offside everytime he moved and slotted in number four. Henrik Da Silva and Andy Pringle were replaced with Martin Read and Mark Wallis. the Fresh legs adding a bit more edge to the game and chance after chance came its way. Glasson missed a sitter from two yards, Mikey payne had two goals dissallowed for offside before Rory Kelly jinxed foward and placed his second goal of the game to make it 5-1. Trowbridge last qtr was thier best, throwing numbers fowrad they etched out three more attempts which Makwana dealt with calmly and on 85 minutes Lee romain who was having his best game of the season so far scored from what must be described as a scuffed cross come looping shot which took a era to fall back to earth behind the Trowbridge keeper and in to wrap up the game 6-1
