Acting For Charity Theatre - Who are we?
ACT! was formed in 1991 to achieve three specific objectives:
To raise money for charity through theatrical productions
To present high quality entertainment for local audiences
To challenge ourselves and our audiences by taking on challenging and different roles and productions which are entertaining, yet different from those being performed by other groups in the Wyre forest
The group produces one major production each year, and all the proceeds from that show are donated to a charity selected annually at the AGM by the members.
The production budget is carefully monitored to ensure that we maintain a reasonable balance between the desire to maximise profits and the desire to produce high quality shows. Even so, production costs are high so we try to raise a substantial amount through sponsorship and fundraising events, so that the proceeds from ticket sales can be donated to the chosen charity.
The first production, The Hired Man, raised £2,500 for the Hearing Dogs for the Deaf. All subsequent productions have raised substantial amounts towards capital projects being undertaken by local charity groups. We prefer to support local charities and to date are proud, in such a short time, to have raised over £18,000 to support their work.
Although a relatively young group, ACT! has established itself as one of the leading groups in the area. Our involvement in the Worcestershire Theatre Festival has brought just rewards for our productions, each year we have entered. No other group can boast that they have won 8 of the 11 trophies being fought for, and some of those on several occasions.
We have approximately 50 members, with ages ranging from 7 to well over 70! Subscriptions are only £10 for adults, £5 for juniors and friends and £25 for a family membership. Rehearsals usually take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the period leading up to a show. We have an active social calendar and are always delighted to welcome new members, whether as performers or supporters.
