About Ashton Players
Ashton Players was established in 1949 - originally as the drama section of the Women's Institute in Ashton under Hill, near Evesham. Forty years ago, there were 22 members and the annual subscription was just five shillings.
Over the years, the group became an active village organisation in its own right, performing a wealth of one-act plays, pantomimes and variety shows as well as full-scale productions including comedies, farces, dramas and musicals.
Unfortunately, though, it has proved increasingly difficult in recent times to find sufficient enthusiasm in the community to put on a production and our last proper show was 'Confusions' in 2003. The committee has reluctantly come to the conclusion that for the moment, at least, it is not worth trying. As a result, Ashton Players is now in permanent hibernation, until such time as someone in the village has the will, energy and enthusiasm to stage a production.
We very much hope that this hibernation is short-lived and we thank all those who have helped us, in whatever way, to achieve success in the past. |
