BROMSGROVE ROVERS FANS MAKE A DREAM START
Fans of Bromsgrove Rovers saw their newly formed organisation get off to a dream start on Friday 16th February. Just over 140 people packed into the hall at the Bromsgrove Labour Club for the launch of the Bromsgrove Rovers Supporters Society.
Chairman of the steering committee, Phil Baker, welcomed everybody present including ex-players, along with the guest of honour Bobby Hope, the clubs former manager.
Phil Baker in his introduction highlighted the uncertainties facing many football clubs with owners and managers through to indifferent local councils and property companies eyeing up grounds for development. Bromsgrove Rovers, he said, appeared to have all these problems along with mounting debts and a winding up order in progress.
This is where the Bromsgrove Rovers Supporters Society has a role to play in representing the fans and working with the club for mutual benefit. As one of the first non-league clubs to take a step in this direction, the society is breaking new ground but if Bromsgrove Rovers are to prosper, then supporters collectively must play a leading role.
The inaugural meeting was a splendid evening of community spirt and friendship which as been lacking at the club in recent years.
The compere of the evening a Mr.Tony Partridge took questions from the floor for the honoured guest, Booby Hope, and also Bill Kings to answer. Subjects were mainly about Bromsgrove Rovers past and present but Bobby in particular was asked his opinions on the current state of the modern game.
At the end of the evening Bobby was presented with an engraved tankard and a certificate commemorating his being the first member of the society.
