What's happening in the Twinning Association

Forthcoming Events

Elizabethan Market

We have a presence as usual at this event on Bromsgrove High Street on Saturday 21st June. We shall be situated just outside SuperSave just below Three Cooks. This year we will concentrate on just CDs, DVDs, videos and modern books. Donations are welcome from now on. Please contact Phil Baker on 01527 870861 if you want anything collecting. Otherwise, bring items along early on the day.

Youth Camp

A party of eight Bromsgrove youngsters will travel to Gronau at the beginning of July to join a youth camp made up of representatives from Gronau and their twin towns in the Netherlands and Hungary as well as ourselves. This is an honour for both Bromsgrove and the Association and we shall be well-represented mainly by youngsters from Waseley Hills High School. The party will be led by Janet King and the former Chairman of the Council, Janice Boswell.

German visit

The townspeople from the Twinning Association (Partnerschaft) in Gronau will be visiting us from 18th to 21st July. The theme this year will be “climate change” and the events being organised will focus on this important subject. There will of course be the usual social events as well. If you can offer accommodation, that will be appreciated for what we hope will not just be an enjoyable but also an enlightening and meaningful weekend. Please contact our organiser Ros Cooke on 10527 832467 if you want to be involved or can offer accommodation.

France visit

We visit St Sauveur Lendelin from 13th to 17th August specifically to spend a day at annual show/carnival/fair at the nearby village of Lessay. This is a major event in the social calendar of the area and like many agricultural shows, there is plenty to do over above the main attraction of the horses, donkeys and mules. In addition, there is entertainment including a meal and dance in the evening. Other events and visits are planned for the remaining days.

Unfortunately, we cannot take any more people on this trip but if you are interested in joining us please contact Ken Ashley on 01527 516774 who will add your name to the reserve list in case of any cancellations.

Harvest/Barn Dance

This is planned for Saturday 20th September. No details at present but please put this date in your diary and watch this space for more information.

Cultural Evening

No firm date has yet been decided for this annual event thought it is likely to be at the end of October. We believe it is important that the evening is internationally based and has a strong twinning theme. More details to be posted later but any ideas will be welcome. Please contact one of our organisers, Janet King to discuss further on 0121-445 2802

Recruitment and Membership

As with all organisations we need members and money. Finances are okay but expenditure has recently outstripped income so we intend to address that issue as the year goes on. Watch out for events.

In addition, our membership is static at about 150 people most of whom are over 50. We believe there is enormous scope not just to increase membership substantially but also to attract younger members. If you are reading this and you are not a member then do something about it now! Contact our Membership Secretary, Judith Stephenson on 0121-445 2918.

Cycle to Germany

Due to other commitments, this venture has been put on ice this year and we are looking at our next visit to Gronau in 2009 to do this trip using two wheels instead of four.

Walk Abroad

Following the two successful trips to Normandy to do the Pilgrims Walk from Barfleur to Mont St Michel, several people have suggested we do another walk. Ideas appreciated and if there is anybody out there willing to organise better still. As we have already done two trips to France, it has been suggested the next walk should be in Germany. Our friends on Gronau have intimated that they would be interested in helping or joining anything planned.
