Club News January 2001

Happy New Year.

We hope you all had a happy Christmas and wish you all the best, and every success in the new year

At the end of last year we made excellent progress in developing our Club in several areas.

We had a presentation from Steve Brewster who is the Sports Development Officer for Wychavon DC. It is Steve's role to see all sports flourish in the community, not least football. Through this contact we have access to training, resources and information including fund raising.

The first initiative is a Junior Team Managers training course, which is being run in February, and will be attended by some of our team managers. If anyone else is interested please give your details to your team manager.

John Hodge is a professional player with Northampton Town. Living in Worcester, John is keen to set up a local Soccer School, and he has offered his services to Drakes Broughton Rangers. We have proposed that John trains players in 5 week modules, starting with the youngest. We will be trialing the training with the under 8 / 9's first, and if successful we will offer this professional training to the other age groups.

Funding for a new Changing facility

Drakes Broughton Rangers are seeking funds for a much needed changing facility. This will not only serve the football club, but will be available for the whole community who use the village playing field. We are hoping to go for full planning approval early this year. We will keep you informed We now have sketch schemes and a request into the parish council for assistance with funding for a new changing facility

We need the support of local Businesses, Local Government, the Football Association , and the National Lottery.

If anyone can help with this project please contact the club using the e-mail page option on this site.

Thank you for your interest.

Drakes Broughton Rangers Club Development

DRAKES BROUGHTON RANGERS JUNIOR
FOOTBALL CLUB

REQUIREMENT FOR CHANGING FACILITIES AT
DRAKES BROUGHTON

Existing Facilities

Drakes Broughton Rangers Football Club was established in 1989 to provide structured football for children in and around the village.

Starting with a single under 8 year team in 1989, the club has grown in popularity and is now held in high esteem, as an integral part of the local community

The Club currently caters for 8 teams ranging from under 8 to under 15, a total of 120 players, and participates in two local leagues, the Worcester Mercian League for age groups 12 - 15 and the Evesham Ambassador League for age groups 8 - 11.

The facilities at Drakes Broughton are limited to;
One full size pitch
One ¾ size pitch
One portakabin for changing
One storage garage.

The village school allow the use of ½ size pitches for matches only.
The Club, have in the past, rented the use of the full size pitch at Peopleton for matches only.

Changing facilities for the Club teams are severely restricted to, the rear hall of the village hall and an old temporary portakabin.

With the regular occurrence of four matches being played on a Saturday morning, and two on a Sunday these teams cannot be accommodated for changing

The portakabin was purchased as a temporary measure while repairs were carried out to the village hall roof. In the course of these repairs the village hall toilet areas were refurbished, by providing disabled access. This work reduced further the benches and coat hanging facilities available in the hall.

The Club cannot continue to renew it's temporary permission for the portakabin, and with very limited facilities in the village hall we desperately need a new changing facility.

The Club's current storage facility available to the Club is an isolated prefabricated garage which has suffered substantial vandalism, and again it is necessary for the garage to be replaced or removed in the near future.

Drakes Broughton Rangers are now seeking permission and funding to build a purpose built changing pavilion

Site

It is proposed to site the new changing pavilion either in a position to replace the existing prefabricated garages or as an extension of the village hall. The existing storage garage on the other side of the field could be removed. Storage space to replace the garages if this scheme was selected, would be provided in the new pavilion.

Access to the changing pavilion would be via the existing drive that leads to the village hall.

The new proposal will back onto the rear of domestic gardens, and although this should not create any problems, the building designers will be mindful of any issues of privacy for both the users of the changing facility and the local residents.

Facilities

It is proposed that the pavilion includes;

2 Changing Rooms, with the ability to divide into four
Referees' changing room / Disabled specification WC
Toilets and Showers (Male and Female)
Refreshment area
Storage facilities
Meeting area

Attached is an indicative plan.

Funding

Funds will be raised from numerous sources, such as, local donations to lottery grants.
One area of focus will be the Football Foundation which, working with the National Game Board is set up to " distribute an unprecedented amount of funding to the area of football that needs it most - the grass roots"

Drakes Broughton Rangers have set up a fund raising committee, with 8 active members from different areas of the community to lend expertise in applying for funds from

Local businesses
Local Government
The Football Association
The National Lottery

Ownership

It is proposed that the changing pavilion once built is held in trust for use by the community, in a similar manner to the village hall. Drakes Broughton Rangers Football Club have no desire to maintain ownership. The pavilion will be built for the community and as such should be owned in a manner that serves the community.

It is proposed that a "pavilion committee" is formed to run and organise maintenance for the building. This could be a sub committee of the village hall committee

Benefits for the community

The Club provides a focus for children to participate in sport. The Club strives to provide a structured, disciplined activity, that children desire to be a part of. This, we believe, enhances the development of social skills and team spirit in a competitive environment.
To continue to attract local children to the Club, we need to continue to improve our facilities to a level where children wish to belong, and feel proud of.

To encourage professional players for the future, the children need a structured Club with sufficient facilities to ensure that they remain in the game.

Remove from the playing field the old portakabin and adhoc storage garages

Provide proper changing facilities at the playing field and village hall for the community

Increase the storage capacity for sporting, club and external play equipment

Allow the village hall to be available for more of the functions it was designed for, by removing the need for it to be used as a changing venue.

Remove the need for dirty and muddy external sports to have access to the village hall.

The new changing pavilion will not only provide changing for the football club, but will also be available for all of the community, for cricket or any other sporting activity. Full changing facilities would be provided complete with washing areas.
The village hall provides very limited changing, clothes hanging and washing facilities.

A large secure storage area is included, designed to replace the three storage garages currently used at the playing field, this will remove the exposure to vandalism to the garages, and will replace the isolated garage at the far corner of the field.

The new pavilion will create a point of arrival and departure for visiting teams and Clubs who use the playing field.

The structure and flooring of the new pavilion will be designed to resist damage and be easily cleaned of mud and dirt brought in by footwear from sporting activities.

The storage area may be used by all village clubs and groups for storage and easy access to external play equipment.
