Senior and Brigaders Section

This is the section within the Girls Brigade for girls aged from eleven upwards. We meet together on a Thursday night form 7:15 to 8:45pm.

The sections take part in badgework to earn awards using various activities and projects, from fund raising, to community work.

The section also has craft sessions and as with all the other sections it is suitable and appropriate for the girls ages.

Seniors and Brigaders can join the 1st Kidderminster Band and play a instrument.

They also go on an annual weekend camp which is usually run jointly with the Junior Section and also take part in some of the company sleepovers.

Camp 15th-17th September 2006

We went to Stratford upon Avon and stayed in Straford Baptist Church.

We arrived at the Church at around 8pm and met the Church youth group who were having a beach party. It was great fun and they invited our girls to join in and have some food with them.

Once they had all gone home it was time to set up, get ready for bed, have supper, have devotions and then bed (note i did not say sleep)

Saturday was a busy day. We were booked into the Shakespeare Visitor center at 10.30 (some wished they had slept more friday night!)

The girls enjoyed the centre and then we went through to Shakespeares birthplace. The girl's enjoyed listening to the guides telling the stories of how life would have been in Shakespeares time, how his family would have lived in the house and what they would have been doing on a day to day basis.

Soon it was time for lunch in the park and the 'surprise'. We had not told the girl's that we were going to see a 'The Tempest' in the Shakespeare Theatre. They were very impressed and excited, they could not wait to get into the seats. All the girl's loved the play as well as the atmosphere of the theatre.

After the theatre it was time to go back to the church for a rest (that was th staff) On the saturday night we went for a walk along the river and around the town passing some of the other Shakespeare properties along the way. Then we picked up a fish and chip tea on the way home. Then before we knew it, it was devotions and bed! (this time a much more peacefull night)

Sunday we joined the Church for the service, some of the girls went and joined the youth group for the morning. Lunch was started and then we went for another walk along the river as it was such a nice day. We took them to Holy Trinity Church where Shakespeare and Ann Hathaway are buried. The girls were in awe of the carvings and decoration in the church. We had just enough time for an ice cream and a sit on the grass on the walk back to the Church. We were having lunch before we knew it and then we were packing up to come home.

A good camp was had by all. We arrived back in Kidderminster at around 6.30pm with a few sleepy looking young ladies in tow.
