Annual Report

Kidderminster 2nd team Annual Report 2002-2003

The Season began with some uncertainty after Chris Pocknall moved to take over the role with the 1st team. After finding myself in the position of playing in a higher team after a couple of games, I took the role of second team Captaincy to aid the club through the coming season.

The League season started with a much-changed 2nd team resembling a 3rd team from the season before. The first 8 games resulted in no return for the team, but there was one outstanding performance to only lose 6-2 against North Staffs, having played 65mins of the game with 8 men.

Towards the end of November we gained the services of Clive Link back from playing with the first team. His experience gave the team the much needed boost it required. The members of the team responded and we produced 2 outstanding draws against Leamington Spa, who were second in the table and Streetly, with Kidderminster only fielding a ten man team. Going into the League break with 2 points under our belts was a good effort, only 2 games before the break thinking that we would be struggling to get any points in the league.

After 2 friendlies, which we lost, we started to pick our performances up in the league with 3 consecutive draws against Telford, Blossomfield and North Stafford. We then only drew two more games in the league against the 2 sides promoted from the league - Bridgnorth and Wolverhampton. It was a close run in for the relegation positions but we unfortunately ran out of steam, finishing bottom with the following stats in the league.

Over the season the 2nds have had a side made up of the younger talented players in the club and older heads. It has been hard for all players concerned in league. I wish to thank all the younger players who have persevered in playing over the season it has been a pleasure to play with them in the side, and wish them all success in the future and develop into a good basis for the 1st team in years to come.

Thanks to Paul Rhodes, Rob Sorrell, Hugh Grummitt, Chris Brazier, Seb Knights, Mike Atkins and Danny Mazurek who have all made contributions to the team and improvements to their own games.

I also wish to thank the older members of the team, for jumping up the level and giving your advice and support to all players in the team.

Thanks to Piers Whitehouse and Dave Brazier for standing in, in my absence, and giving the team talks. Piers has also had an outstanding season in front of goal scoring 13 in the league and being 5th placed top scorer in the league. I would like to thank all the players who have played for the 2nds, thanks for your commitment to the cause.

My player of the season for the seconds is Jim Thorpe for his outstanding attitude, commitment and the improvement he has made to his own game over the season.

Finally I hope all who have played in the 2nds have enjoyed the season, despite not winning all season and hope that you will all return next year.
