In a difficult season where the club found themselves blatantly short of players the 3rd team where always going to struggle. At the start of the season with elder players who before the season stated where expecting to play in at least 1 side lower and youngsters who where just not ready for the physical side of the 3rd team league, the side struggled to come to terms with the skill level and physical side to life at this level. But the spirit of the side never wained and the social side was always a joy to be associated with.
We struggled that much is obvious but the younger element was the bright spot. Their skill level is undoubtedly high but they need to learn when and how to bring their skills into a game situation. With continued guidance from older players the younger elements have to learn to listen more and try and take onboard what is being said. We all have to play positions sometimes we are not used to or do not want to, but these decisions are not taken lightly. But good seasons from Stuart Wharton, Craig Bourne, Joe Sorrell and Danny Mazurek. Also watch out for Tom Eales, Scott Edwards, Tom Roberts and Steven Elmer.
I feel that the club needs to look at its training. Not only to improve the first team, but also to help improve the younger element mentioned before hand.
Big thanks to the elder players, Mick Knowles play's as if he is 43 not 63, Andy Cookson our longest serving player (so I am informed) continues to be as consistent as ever, Daren Jakson has had his best season ever playing midfield, Keith Burgess who continued his mazy runs and a big big thanks to Eddie Pietkowicz. Eddie supported me throughout the season and stepped in when I was unavailable or promoted. He is a big asset to the Hockey club and I thank him for all his help this season. Also thanks to all players who have helped me out personally when short of players. A big thanks must go to the Brazier family who all turned out on our re-arranged Sunday fixture against Old Sils (and thanks to Lyndsay who let them play!!!)
Finally a big thanks to my fellow captains, who have to put in mildly. had some interesting Monday night selections!! We worked well as a selection committee and never quarrelled about some difficult team selections at times. Thanks to Dougie. Neil and Chris.
And finally next year WILL be better!!!
