Malvern Chess Club concluded their Worcester and District League programme with a convincing win over Headless Cross. The lower board games finished quickly as Geoffrey Herbert and John Knee both gained considerable material advantage. The upper board games were better contested. Brian Turner was unable to make any progess against his opponent's quiet opening and a draw was eventually agreed. Ian Clarke's opponent put up strong resistance but eventually lost a piece and resigned the game to give Malvern a 3½ - ½ victory.

Malvern Chess Club returned to County League action with creditable 3-3 draw at Manor Park against championship contenders Worcester City. The highlights of the match were fine wins by John Knee with a kings side breakthrough and Tony Shaw with decisive pressure against his opponent's weak pawns. Ian Clarke and Geoffrey Herbert drew carefully played games. Barry Stone played an enterprising attack but eventually lost and Brian Turner was outplayed positionally and resigned in the adjouned position to leave the match drawn.
