14 regular runners and one interested newcomer attended the inaugural meeting on November 23rd at the Red Lion.
A little while ago it was spotted in the Gazette that Malvern Town Council were giving grants to local organisations, and after discussion it was decided that we put together a presentation and apply for one. This we duly did, and Chris and Carol supported Eric as he battled with a rebellious overhead projector that refused to work properly. Nevertheless, we were pleased to hear that our application had been successful.
Two conditions were attached to the offer of £200, that we establish a constitution, and that we would show Malvern Town Council's sponsorship on our kit. Having accepted these conditions, the inaugural meeting was the result.
At the meeting Chris Barker was elected as Chairman, with Carol Pike as Secretary, Alison Merley as Treasurer and Eric Bromage as Kit Organiser. Thanks to Jerry Greer who has volunteered to be our auditor.
It was agreed that we would charge a very reasonable membership fee of £10 per year, and part of this would cover affiliation to Midland Counties and UK Athletics Associations. Chris listed the potential benefits which include race entry at £1 less, London Marathon place/s, 10% discount at Runaround, the opportunity to buy club kit and the possibility of insurance whilst running.
On the subject of club kit, Eric has been working amazingly hard and those of us who have also been involved are so impressed that we can't wait to show off the results! Many thanks to Bob Cartwright who has designed the artwork for us. We are convinced that our distinctive design will be the envy of every other club, and once we have received the first batch of vests we will be posing for the camera in order to update the web page.
Although we are now 'official' we will always welcome newcomers who would like to experience a run with the Malvern Joggers, but we should also like to encourage all our regular runners to become members as soon as possible as we have some up-front costs to cover, including the setting up of the artwork for the kit. If anyone would like a form then email the site or give Chris a ring.
Anyone with a contribution they would like to make, a suggestion or a comment, then we should like to hear from you.
