R U G B Y * * * S C O R E ! ! ! 31 Oct 2001: Hednesford finally beat home side Rugby United in their League Cup tie when the ball hit the net for the 49th time in the game ! The two sides finished 2-2 after extra time, and then proceeded to give a near faultless display of penalty-taking before Hednesford finally triumphed 23-22 on spot kicks. It might have been over earlier, when Rugby missed one with the score at 14 each, but Hednesford promptly missed their next one as well to prolong the suspense ! It was the second successive "late" night for Hednesford - who beat Rushden & Diamonds 4-3 on penalties in their Midland Youth Cup match the previous evening. ...At least one national newspaper has since announced that this is a world record..... --------------------------------------------------
