10 Ways You Can Help Animals
If you would like help, advice, info etc on any of the issues below please don`t hesitate to get in touch.
1. Join us, your local group. Don`t be scared to get involved, we welcome support from all newcomers. Subscribe to receive regular email alerts or free news sheets (see the local contacts page)
2. Go vegetarian - stop eating meat. This is the first step that many people take on the path towards a compassionate lifestyle. In the UK, 2,000 people go veggie every week. At that rate, the entire population will be veggie by the year 2047! Why not try giving up meat for a week and see how you get on! Contact The Vegetarian Society for more info. See our LINKS page.
3. Boycott companies that test their products on animals. Procter and Gamble, Unilever, Smithkline Beacham etc all test their products on animals. Using our power as consumers we can encourage them to adopt a more ethical policy. Only buy products which clearly state `not tested on animals.`
4. Join the various National campaigning groups. Animal Aid, VIVA, Uncaged and CAPS are national groups that run very successful campaigns across the country. See our LINKS page.
5. Go vegan - Cut out all animal products from your diet. This is not as difficult as it may sound, there`s a huge and growing range of delicious food widely available. Save animals, become healthier and help stop environmental destruction all in one go. Most vegans also avoid wearing leather, fur etc and don`t use any animal tested products. Contact The Vegan Society for more info. See our LINKS page.
6. Spread the word - Hand out leaflets to family and friends. Put up posters on your works notice board and in shop windows. There`s no doubt that many more people would get involved if they knew how animals are abused and how they could help stop it. Contact us for leaflets etc.
7. If you hear some information about local cruelty which we should be aware of, please let us know. For example, you may see real fur on sale in a shop or hear that an animal circus is coming to the area.
8. If you have internet access, you can join in most campaigns using email. Several groups have an `email action alert` list that will send you up to date info when your help is needed.
9. Write letters to your MP, the council, newspapers, companies etc. Letter writing may seem boring or a waste of time to some people but we have actually achieved many victories simply by voicing our concerns in this way.
10. Donate or raise money to help fund our campaigning. Sadly, the leaflets, newsletters etc that we distribute all cost money. Hold a car boot sale, a sponsored event or organise a street collection. If you would like to donate please make cheques payable to `West Midlands Animal Action` and write Redditch Animal Rights on the back. Send to PO Box 10202, Redditch, Worcs. B98 8YT. |
