Previous news from Worcester City Girls FC Saturday 30 November Stourbridge Scorpions 4 - 1 Worcester City Worcester City Girls put in a lot of hard work against Stourbridge but came away with nothing to show for all the effort. After conceding an early goal Worcester had a number of chances to equalise but conceded again and were 2-0 down at half time. Stourbridge scored two more in the second half with Siobhan grabbing a consolation goal for Worcester. Rowena was chosen as player of the match.
Saturday 16 November Worcester City 2 - 0 Droitwich Worcester City Girls gained their first league win of the season beating Droitwich 2-0 at home. Worcester scored early in the first half when Rachel lobbed a shot over the Droitwich goalkeeper. Worcester had a number of chances to add to the score in the first half but were caught offside regularly and it remained 1-0 at half time.
In the second half Worcester defended well and Katie made the game safe with a goal in the last few minutes. Eloise was awarded player of the match. Well done girls.
Saturday 9 November...NO GAME This Saturday is the 1st round of the Cup and we have a bye.
Saturday 2 November...GAME OFF Worcester City Girls v Stourbridge Scorpions League match, home, 11am kick-off This match has been POSTPONED as Stourbridge cannot raise a team.
Saturday 26 October Stourbridge 2 - 2 Worcester Worcester City Girls gained their first point of the season with an exciting 2-2 draw away to Stoubridge Scorpions. Battling against a strong wind and sloping pitch Worcester Girls took an early lead when Siobhan followed up a shot by Amy to score after a goalmouth scramble. Lucy made it 2-0 by shooting past the goalkeeper after another good run down the left wing.
Stourbridge came back strongly in the second half and pulled back two goals to level the score at 2-2. Worcester Girls then defended well and battled hard in midfield and attack and were unlucky not to score the winning goal. Rachel was awarded the player of the match trophy.
Saturday 12 October 2002 Coreley 4 - 2 Worcester Worcester City girls scored twice in the first half to cancel out two early goals by Coreley. Clare scored from the penalty spot and Lucy finished well after a good move by Worcester. Coreley scored again to lead 3-2 at half time. The second half was very even with the only goal going to Coreley. Player of the match for Worcester was Laura. Thanks to Coreley for the after match refreshments.
Saturday 19 October The game against Merry Hill Maidens has been postponed as Merry Hill cannot raise a team. Instead there will be a practice match on the home pitch at Little Perdiswell. Meet at 10.15, kick off at 11am.
Saturday 5 October Droitwich 3 - 2 Worcester Worcester Girls played their first away match against Droitwich Spa at Droitwich Leisure Centre. In a close game Worcester were in front twice, with Katie Burden scoring both to continue her good goal scoring run. Droitwich scored a late winner with a well taken lob from outside the penalty area. Emily, Rachael and Melissa made their debut for Worcester Girls. Nikki was voted player of the match. Thanks to Laura's dad for standing in as referee.
Saturday 28 September Training match - players v parents Meet at Little Perdiswell at 10.15am
Sunday 22 September England Ladies 1 - 0 Iceland Ladies On a cold Sunday afternoon 27 players and parents made the trip to Birmingham City Football Club to watch England Ladies play a World Cup qualifier. England won 1-0 and now play France home and away for a place in the FIFA World Cup in China next year. In the England dugout was Dawn Scott, founder of this club, who is now part of the England coaching team. At half time Birmingham City Under 12 Girls played Aston Villa Girls who included Tiffany ('Tiff') Jones who used to play for ... Worcester City Girls.
Saturday 21 September Worcester 2 - 4 Coreley Worcester Girls played their second league match at home to Coreley. Worcester came from behind to level the scores at 2-2 at half time. Katie Burden scored both goals and Corrina Hundle saved a penalty. In the second half Coreley added two more goals to finish 4 - 2 winners.
Saturday 14 September First match of the season Worcester 3 - 8 Phoenix On Saturday 14 September the Worcester City Girls played their first ever 11 a-side game on a full size pitch. The visitors were Phoenix FC from Hereford who had already played pre-season friendlies against strong opposition. It was a tough start for Worcester who were 5-1 down at half time. The second half saw a good fight back with the game ending 8-3 to Phoenix. Scorers for Worcester were Katie (2) and Amy. |
