What Do We Do?
The Young Firefighters, when they first join, are put though a 13 week basic training course. After this they are given a passing out parade. This is a chance to show the skills that they have learnt to friends, family, local dignitaries and senior Fire Service officers. At their passing out parade, the Young Firefighters are awarded their passing out certificate and the guests are then invited to mingle and help themselves to the running buffet.
From then onwards they are trained in greater detail in preparation for more complex drills. There is also the opportunity to take part in additional activities - for example: summer camp including activites such as rock climbing, caving, mountain biking, team building, bridge building, raft building, kayaking and canoeing. At special occations like Christmas and Easter we have gone to Laser Quest, Bowling had numerous discos and swimming! This is in addition to promoting Fire Safety Awareness in the community at local fetes, events and Fire Station Open Days with a chance to preform drills to the public. A great event we particapate in every year is the Upton water festival, which thousands of people come to watch the fantastic firework display and water display which the young firefighters help to set up. A great night with a great atmosphere with an amazing group of friends!
