The Funds

This branch is subsidised by the Hereford And Worcester Combined Fire Authority. The subsidies are used to pay for uniform and for Personal Protective Equipment.

Apart from that small subsidy, the YFA is a self-funded organisation. This means we have to get out there and raise the money ourselves by organising car washes, quiz nights and sponsored walks. We are also lucky enough to have received donations from local people and organisations - THANK YOU!

The Young Firefighters

The Young FireFighters (YFF's) are all between 13 and 17 years of age, and although the branch is based in Droitwich not all of the YFF's are local to the town. We have members that come from as far afield as Evesham, Worcester Birmingham and Redditch.
The young firefighters gain new friendships, interests, confidence, skills and numerous awards including first aid training and millenium volenteers.
A High Sheriffs award is also open for the most improved and respected young firefighter presented anually at hereford and worcesters awards evening including other awards to firefighters including 30 years service awards and outstanding service. This is a very prestidous event with a buffet made for a king, a brass band and awards givin by top firefighters.
During their time with us, the older Young Firefighters are given ranks based on merit. This includes Watch Leaders, Quartermaster and Senior Young Firefighters.

Unfortunately, at the age of 18, Young Firefighters are asked to leave the group, although they may express an interest in becoming a Lay Instructor.

The Instructors

Many of our instructors have a Fire Service background, though this is not essential. Currently, we have 1 whole time Firefighter, 4 retained Firefighters 3 of which used to be young firefighters and 1 retired Firefighter as instructors. 2 wives of the firefighters also play a extremely valuable part in the running of the YFA.

All instructors undergo an enhanced criminal record check and are considered carefully before being placed in a position of trust. We also have both male and female instructors.
