York Allergy Support was formed in May 1998 by parents of children with food allergies.Our aim is to support families and offer practical advice. Group members draw on their own experiences to help each other and to offer 'a listening ear' to parents who may have , for example just had a food allergy diagnosed. Many of the children also have eczema and asthma too and we discuss ways in which to cope with these conditions and the various issues surrounding allergies; in particular fears for our children, problems with shopping and finding safe foods,social occassions and schooling.
Most meetings are informal, but we occassionally have guests, such as school nurses to advise on setting up protocols and representatives from industry industry, for example, to discuss food labelling issues.
