The Search

Becoming a grandmother for the first time caused me to begin thinking that I knew very little about my OWN grandparents, and felt that I wanted to find out more.
The search began in Aylesbury in Bucks, with the burial of my grandparents. Although they died in Bucks, they came from 'up north' though I still don't know why they moved so far down south.
Grandfather, William Oscar ATLEY was from Sheffield, born there in 1882 and Grandmother from Burringham in Scunthorpe, born 1877.
Great Grandfather, also William Oscar was also born in/around Sheffield, in 1857although I have not been able to trace his birth.
Great, great grandfather, Thomas was born in Ackworth in 1827. Thomas's sister Mary-Jane and brother John were born/baptised in Naburn
GGGGrandfather John was, I believe born in Naburn and married Abigail MAWSON from Wath-upon Dearne in 1815
