July 18th vs SHERIFF HUTTON Home
There was rain. There was sun. But above all there was WIND! It was all a bit of a guessing game ... but Bish Ladies 2 triumphed once more. And with exactly the same score as Ladies 1 had brilliantly achieved in the morning - 64-44.
Shame we won't be seeing Sheriff Hutton in Division 6 next year, as they got promotion to division 5! And it was welcome to Carmem in the team - lovely Brazilian cake! Do come back - for the tennis as well as your cake! You worked your way in nicely playing with Lee - and had a good win over their first couple to end the day.
July 11th vs APPLETON ROEBUCK Home
While their captain was in the centre of the UK tennis universe (Dunblane!) drinking champagne in the sun, Ladies 2 trooped out to play Appleton Roebuck - they are top of Division 6, so we were expecting sterner opposition.
On a hot sunny afternoon, the final score was 57-51... but our ladies were still victorious! Well done - you deserved your scones with strawberries and cream!
July 4th vs COPMANTHORPE III Home
While Georgina and Kathryn were being made to run around a lot at Bubwith playing for Ladies1, Ladies 2 were enjoying a much easier time beating Copmanthorpe. A nice 75-33 victory I believe. Well done once more!
27th June vs STAMFORD BRIDGE Away
Ladies 2 went off to battle on a cloudy morning, with a few spots of moisture in the air on arrival at Stamford Bridge. But the rain held off and the sun made good attempts to shine upon us, in this clash of the two top teams in the division.
We were 27-9 up after the first rubber, 56-16 up after the second rubber, 84-24 up at the end of the match - all adding up to another cracking victory for Ladies 2!
Fabulous net play by our top scoring couple of Lee and Katie - drop shots, smashes, the works. That's why they won 32 games!
7 wins out of 8 - not bad! With our only loss coming on the 13th - but we're not superstitious, just human! Now to enjoy our 5 "friendly" matches against Division 6 opposition!
Well done ladies - when are we going out to celebrate?
20th June vs BUBWITH II Home
Thank heavens for starting at 9.30! It allows you to finish a match before the heavens open about 12!
And it was another heavenly performance from birthday girl Julia, who managed to notch up 30 games with partner Georgina! Helen and Tracey, and Jo and Lee matched each other on 20.
It all added up to a very nice 70-38 win - a sunny score even if the rain was thumping down while we enjoyed another nice lunch, including a birthday cake for Julia (we won't mention the numbers!).
13th June vs DAVID LLOYD 2 Away
What was it about this Saturday that made it so popular for doing things other than play tennis?! Many thanks to Linda Ejlali for stepping in at the eleventh (well, tenth really!) hour and enabling us to play the match with a full team.
In her first ladies match, she teamed together with Hilary and grabbed us a creditable 9 games. However, with Next Generation, sorry David LLoyd fielding a stronger team than first time around, our other totals of 21 (Chris and Georgina) and 20 (Helen and Katie) weren't quite enough to make it -eventually losing 58-50.
But it was a lovely sunny afternoon and the strawberry cream sponge was yummy! Next week ...
6th June vs DUNNINGTON IV Home
Despite the captain being on holiday and two team stalwarts playing up in the first team, the team returned a resounding 94-14 winning scoreline!
Another great victory, albeit aided by an injured Dunnington pair conceding 36 games.
May 31st vs COPMANTHORPE Away
There may have been a shock result at the French Open today, but not for Bish Ladies 2 who just keep winning!
Despite it being a non-league match against Division 6 opposition, and a hot sunny afternoon, our Ladies played with commitment and style, winning 72-36!
New to Ladies 2, Jo teamed up with Katie to help Bishopthorpe have a healthy lead of 16 after the first rubber. The blossoming partenership of Lee and Hilary returned and helped Bishopthorpe keep ahead by 28 after the second rubber , and top scorers Julia and Kathryn were magificent ensuring that we were still well ahead at the end!
..and Copmanthorpe laid on a very nice spread - the cake rivalry continues! Well done once more.
(Cake? - surprised it wasn't burnt...... Everything else was!)
May 16th vs STAMFORD BRIDGE Home
Today was cold and wet, then warm and sunny, then cool and windy! But the weather doesn't beat us - we notched up another win!
The battle with Stamford Bridge was often long, but thankfully victorious with an 83-25 victory to Bishopthorpe 2. Kathryn and Georgina notched up 29, Julia and Jill 26 and Katie and Helen topped it off with 28, including a winning 7 over the Stamford Bridge number ones!
Katie's cake won approval too! Another good day ladies! Can the men match that??????
(...errr....no. But can YOU do this? Look - here's a 'Y' chromosome...xD)
May 9th vs BUBWITH II Away
Another fabulous victory for the Ladies 2nd team! Even sweeter when we heard it was a double over Bubwith with Ladies 1 also winning!
More good scores - Katie and Helen winning 24 games, Tracey and Kathryn 25 (although they did one opponent's back in so 4 of those games weren't actuallyplayed! But Tracey did dispense some free advice on exercises for badbacks!)... and Julia and Georgina with 30, including their first ever 12!
The strawberries in the sun afterwards were tasty too, with a very yummy cake.
But less wind next time please.
Keep it up girls!
May 2nd vs 'NEXT GENERATION' II Home
We won again! Nice weather, lovely courts, good tennis, lovely lunch and another fabulous victory! Well done everyone!
Hilary and Lee played well in their first match and started what could be a lovely partnership (16 games), Julia and Jill came together for a winning (26 games) and Kathryn and Georgina topped it off with 29 games
Long may it continue ...
April 26th vs DUNNINGTON IV Away
A splendid victory of 87-21 was definitely a good start to a new season. Well played, Kathryn and Tracey (28 games), Katie and Helen W? (29 games), and Julia and Georgina (32 games). Long may it continue ... Shame next week is a bank holiday weekend so already some can't play ...
