Ladies Doubles Tournament 2007

There were six 'finalists' for the Ladies Doubles tournament, played on a bright Saturday morning on 22nd September.

L to R: Tracey, Julia, Milly, Helen, Andrene and Jane... and Nora

With six players, it was decided that everyone should partner everyone else in turn, and play matches of 6 games against the other pairs. If you work it out, it's a lot of games!

Nora came along....well, just because she likes Tennis...... and to do the commentary.

The first round was a bit nervy, as everyone 'warmed up'. Tracey and Julia quickly got into the swing by doing their synchronised pilates routine.... was Nora impressed?

There was some very impressive Tennis early on...

Here a long rally of 15 shots was ended only by a twitchy backhand interception, which found the net.

Come on, be honest - out of ten?

Helen, partnering Andrene here, demonstrated her formidable double-handed backhand to good effect.

Tracey was quite run off her feet, fielding Helen's deep cross-court drives.

Nora was just pleased to see someone else doing the running around for a change.

Nice fetch.... but I wonder where that shot's going?

Even at the net, there were some quite ferocious exchanges - much to the delight of the spectators.

Change of ends was time to take stock and talk tactics....

Having lost the previous game fairly convincingly, Jane suggested that she and Tracey swap roles for the next one.

It wasn't a great success....

After all the tumultuous Tennis and about 3 hours of play, the scores were totted up and the winners declared. The two with the most number of games won, and therefore:

...are Milly (left) and Andrene.

Many congratulations to them both, and very well played everyone. It was just a super morning of Tennis, and appreciated by us all. Even Nora was happy!

Tracey later explained to all and sundry, that she probably would have won, if only she hadn't lost a contact right at the beginning of the Tournament.

...and a very special 'big up' to Tracey - who always brings out the funny side. A real trooper!
