Many thanks to everyone who took part in and attended events at this year's festival. It was a great success with over 100 events, including activities in schools, on campus and many church celebrations. The annual Fair Trade Market ran for 3 days, creating quite a buzz in Parliament Street. It was visited by more than 4000 people.

On the Saturday afternoon at the Fair Trade Market, the annual entertainment event took place with a full musical programme, including the vibrant sound of York Samba and a display of capoeira. Fair Trade volunteers gave out Fairtrade York map leaflets and spoke to hundreds of people at the Fairtrade info stall.

During the Festival we were delighted to welcome a party of Palestinian women who gave workshops on refugees and family integrity and women's rights. Palestinian Fair Trade products were sold at the workshop event which took place at York St. John University.

Oxfam Campaigns at the University of York

Photo: Oxfam's Nicola Sansom talks to students at the Oxfam Campaigns stall at the International Developments Society's careers & volunteering event.

Oxfam is to set up a new campaigns group at the University of York. Its members will take action in support of the Grow campaign which highlights food issues - looking at price volatility, the impact of climate change and the effect of land grabs. Support for small scale farmers is also an integral part of the Grow campaign and Oxfam hope to be working closely with the Fairtrade Foundation on this issue.
