York Festival of Fairtrade 2010
 | The York Festival of Fairtrade 2010 will take place from 22nd February to 7th March.
During the Festival there will be over a hundred events including sales, tastings and events at churches, schools, community groups and at the city’s universities.
This year York will play host to a visit from a Fairtrade farmer, one of the millions of Fairtrade producers, from the world's poorest countries, who benefit from the fair price they are paid for their products. They will be here to tell us the difference that Fairtrade has made to their lives and to the wellbeing of their families and communities.
The highlight of the Festival will be the three day York Fair Trade Market which will take place on Friday 5th, Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th March. Parliament Street will be filled with a wide variety of colourful stalls selling Fairtrade food & drink, crafts, clothes, bags, jewellery and fashion accessories.

Entertainment Day
 | At the market on Saturday 6th March there will be a day of entertainment including the infectious sound of samba, music and dancing from around the world and celebrity appearances.

Florinda's aims
 | To bring to the UK high quality products at reasonable prices, thereby promoting cultural continuity, respect and value for the creativity and workmanship of the weavers and other artisans.
In this way customers can buy hand-made products at reasonable prices while the producers can continue in business using their traditional skills.
My work is only possible because of the support of my family and other people in Bolivia and York.
Bolivian Artisans
The peoples of Bolivia have had a tradition of colourful textiles for over a thousand years. Ever since then these leather goods, rugs, llama wool ponchos and other crafts have been made either by hand or using simple machinery. Each has a unique pattern based on Inca and Aymara designs and symbols. Most Bolivian crafts come from the Andes where farming is the main source of income. These native communities often rely on alternative sources of income, such as from handicrafts.
Artisans are the people who make the goods such as the leather bags and the other crafts - these are made by hand using very few tools or simple machinery.
Artisans work painstakingly for long hours to produce these beautiful objects. Their methods of production are as traditional as you can get. They are passionate about the quality of their products.
Next time you come by my shop, I hope you will appreciate the crafts in a different way. You will realize the love and meaning put in every object.
