What is York Fair Trade Forum?
 York Fair Trade Forum is a voluntary organisation working to make York a Fairtrade city so that more people locally are aware of, and support fairtrade which guarantees farmers in the developing work a fair price for their products.

Fairtrade Wine Tasting

Fairtrade Wine Tasting in York Minster Tuesday 23rd September at 7.30pm Tickets just £5, available from the York Festival of Food & Drink booking line - 466687 ( Mon - Fri, 9-5, Sat, 10-3 ) Everyone attending the event will have the opportunity to taste 7 different Co-operative Fairtrade wines, including white, red and rose. In addition to the wine tasting there will be a short talk on Fairtrade winegrowers, music provided by the Micklegate Singers ( York’s first Fairtrade choir ) and an opportunity to see a wide range of Fairtrade food and drink products. NewsNewsNewsNewsNewsNewsNewsNews Aroma Coffee Shop Exciting new Fairtrade coffee shop opens in Haxby Aroma opened on 8th September at 30 The Village, Haxby. Aroma serves Fairtrade tea, coffee & drinks and where possible Fairtrade ingredients are used to make homemade produce. A range of Fairtrade gifts are also available. Opening Hours Open 9am-5pm from Monday to Saturday. Aroma is a great place to relax and meet friends. Aroma is an initiative of Haxby & Wigginton Methodist Church. Fashion in Focus One Ethical Boutique in the centre of York at Peter Lane ( enter the lane by the side of Superdrug off Market Street ) The Shop's philosophy Since Anne founded the boutique in 2007, her philosophy has been to provide the finest range of designer and leading brand ethical clothing, shoes, accessories and gifts. Her tempting arrays of goods are keenly sourced from suppliers who care for the environment and the people that produce them. The Collections Her items include the luxurious cashmere and wool ranges of British designers Izzy Lane and Makepiece. The superbly soft and absorbent Bailey bamboo sits a long side items from the international designers of Stewart and Brown, Les Fees de Bengale, and Deborah Lindquist. Shoes & Bags The shoe and bag ranges include the vegetarian shoes by Beyond Skin and the fantastically comfortable and sustainably produced shoes of Terra Plana. She has vegetable dyed and hand crafted bags from La Nativa and stylish candy wrapper bags by Nahui Ollin. Jewellery One has an exciting and original range of fair trade jewellery from Made together with stylish items made from taqua (vegetable ivory), recycled biscuit tins and coconut shells. Many other ethical designers, brands, and vintage pieces are available directly from the website or shop. Gift vouchers and individual gift boxes are also available. As an independent ethical boutique One does not compromise its ethical principles and caters for every aspect of any women’s lifestyle.
EXCITING NEW FOOD SHOP OPENS IN YORK We are delighted to welcome on to the York retail scene an exciting new concept in food shopping. Introducing Kyi-Po Kyi-Po means pleasant in Tibetan. The shop on the corner of Goodramgate and Aldwark is indeed pleasant with a bright, fresh modern feel. More importantly Kyi-Po has a pleasant effect on the world thanks to its support of Fairtrade, environmentally friendly products and vegetarianism. The shop has a wide range of Fairtrade products and the friendly owners Matthew and Sarah want to promote the sale of Fairtrade drinks to the tourist trade, in particular the Fairtrade cola. Matthew and Sarah say that whenever they have a choice they will always stock a Fairtrade product. Kyi-Po is a health food store that also carries a range of eco friendly household products. Kyi-Po has a wide range of organic food, drinks, desserts - they also cater for special diets such as gluten-free and none of the food contains animal products, to promote a healthy diet. All products are cruelty free - not tested on animals. The shop, which opened in June 2008, is already proving popular, not only with tourists and city centre shoppers, but also with those who live in the city centre who view Kyi-Po as their local friendly corner shop. From humble beginnings as a York Market Stall, this local company has now expanded to be a chain of 7 shops. The York shop is an absolute treat. It specialises in quality fairly traded crafts, ideal for gifts or a great way to decorate your home. They also stock an impressive range of fairly traded recycled goods - ethical, inventive & also great fun.
The Spurriergate Centre, Spurriergate
This well known York meeting place has an excellent reputation for its relaxed ambience, child friendliness & fine food. All tea & coffee served in the cafe is Fairtrade & don’t miss the marvellous Fair Trade shop, which stocks a wide range of gifts & foodstuffs.

This wholefood shop is a great York institution. It stocks a fabulous range of organic & Fair Trade foodstuffs. Well worth the short walk to fashionable Fishergate. Essential for all those interested in ethical & healthy eating.

For those who haven’t been to the Bishopthorpe Road shops recently you’re in for a big surprise, it’s a vibrant shopping area & the jewel in the crown is the Good Food Shop. A great range of healthy foods & the owner is proud to stock a range of Fairtrade products.
Henshelwoods, 10 Newgate, next to the market
Another great deli with a lovely selection of fresh produce. As well as selling some Fairtrade products they also do takeaway Fairtrade tea & coffee.
Tarts & Titbits, 78 Gillygate
This excellent shop specialises in promoting Yorkshire produce. The owner is also keen to stock Fairtrade foods. If you haven’t seen this relatively new shop before it’s well worth a visit.

Literally perched on the bridge, this is a bijoux gem of a place that will serve you a great Fairtrade coffee.

A long standing supporter of Fairtrade. They have a great range of coffees that are all Fairtrade. The cafe itself is a lovely place to sit & relax & enjoy the panoramic views of the riverside.
In the basement of the cinema complex you will find the Gateway Internet Cafe, where you can enjoy a Fairtrade drink & tap away to your heart’s content.
