York Festival of Fairtrade 2008
 | The York Festival of Fairtrade 25th February to 9th March 2008 This year's York Festival of Fairtrade was bigger & better than ever. There were over 100 events across the city at a wide variety of venues including schools, the universities, churches & community centres. York Fair Trade Market The highlight was the Fair Trade Market on the final weekend, which saw Parliament Street filled with colourful stalls selling thousands of different Fair trade products. It really was a marvellous showcase of the range & quality of fair trade products. We were joined by the Lord Mayor of York, Councillor Irene Waudby, and the Sheriff, Councillor Keith Hyman and Sheriff’s Lady, Karen Hyman. Entertainment Entertainment was provided by juggler Professor Fiddlesticks, a marvellous children's entertainer ( check out his website at www.kidspartysurvivalguide.com/fiddlesticks ). Talented musicians Saxofun also featured as did the exciting sound of African drums from York St. John. Headline act was the outstanding York Samba who drew crowds of several hundred people & they were complemented by the stylish moves of York capoeira, a Brazilian martial art / danceform. Certainly a weekend to remember. Thanks to all those who came to the events & to all who helped. Fair trade in York just gets bigger & bigger.
