Four years on

For several months people kept asking in the village if there was any truth in the rumour that a gardening club was to be formed? As no progress was being made I arranged to book the annex of the Village Hall for a Monday evening in October 1997.
I opened up the hall and put a dozen chairs out at best hoping to fill half of them! How wrong can you be, thirty people turned up on that evening and "Green Fingers" the Stockton-on-the-Forest Gardening Club was formed. Four years on and most of the original thirty are still members, and although one or two have fallen by the wayside the numbers have grown to a membership of fifty plus in October 2001.
The club now has members who live obviously in the village but also from surrounding areas, Gate Helmsley, Huntington, Hopgrove, Heworth, Fangfoss and our latest new member lives in Newton-on-Ouse! So as you can see you do not have to live in the village of Stockton-on-the-Foest to become a member.
