Tadcaster v Heworth 9th Feb League game
Tadcaster v Heworth Sunday 9 February 2003
Today was not one of Heworth’s better displays. It didn’t help that this was only their second game in nine weeks. John McNaughton was unable to play due to illness and his strength and pace at the back were missed.
For the first seventeen minutes it was a scrappy game with not much happening, except the blatant handball inside the area from a Tadcaster defender that the referee said he didn’t see.Tadcaster then pushed the ball through for one of their forwards to run on to. All the Heworth players stood appealing for offside, while the Tadcaster forward finished with a goal. The rest of the first half was pretty uneventful making the score at half time 1-0 to Tadcaster.
For the first five minutes of the second half Heworth started playing a bit better. In the 42nd minute the Tadcaster keeper stopped the ball with his hand outside of the area denying Tommo the opportunity to score, from the resulting free kick, Liam Wingfield shot into the wall. In the 48th minute Tadcaster scored their second goal, Nick Elsom was left on his own with a Tadcaster forward who beat him for pace from the half way line. He ran through and slipped the ball under Daniel. Two minutes later Phil scored for Heworth direct from a free kick after Tommo had been brought down just outside the Tadcaster box. After 68 minutes the Tadcaster left winger sprinted down the wing and crossed for the centre forward to make the score 3-1. In injury time Tommo scored for Heworth after Liam Thornton put him through with a defence splitting pass.
