HOLMES FAMILY--LOOKING FOR RELATIVES & INFO
We have traced the HOLMES family to the towns of MARKET WEIGHTON & POCKLINGTON.....JAMES HOLMES was born (1793), and married to MARY OMBLER in 1814 in the town of MARKET WEIGHTON. He later became postmaster. His children included JAMES WALDBY HOLMES and he was also was born and married (MARY CROUCH) in MARKET WEIGHTON. Later (about 1850) they moved to POCKLINGTON where they raised a family (WILLIAM, ELIZABETH, THOMAS, EDWARD, SARAH) and he died in 1891. He was buried in the POCKLINGTON CEMETERY along with his wife, MARY and children ELIZABETH AND EDWARD. The gravestone is visable..
JAMES WALDBY HOLMES' son THOMAS HOLMES immigrated to Ontario, Canada sometime around 1860 and proceeded to have a large family. Most of his immediate family ended up in the United States and THOMAS died in 1926 in Cleveland, Ohio.
THOMAS left behind some cousins in Ontario (near Blenheim) and his children JAMES, THOMAS EDWARD, AURTHUR WILLIAM (my grandfather), NORMAN, WALTER,and OLIVER W.HOLMES.
WOULD APPRECIATE ANY INFO FROM UK, CANADA OR USA THANKS, PAUL HOLMES |
