JUNIOR ROUND-UP
Welcome to the junior scene:
This season has already had its casualties, the under 17's league has folded leaving 33 boys with no junior football available to them. Some have forced their way into the under 19's and even the reserves which shows the standard of young talent at the club. Dean Storrie has entered his boys in the Scarborough Sunday morning League; they are competing very well in senior football and are sponsored by Wards Transport of Malton.
Our other casualty has been the girls under 12's which, owing to the lack of older girls, Manager, Hannah Pickup felt that they would not benefit from a full season in the league. A Saturday morning training session is now in place at Thornton Dale.
The under 11's 'A' team is flying, winning all its league games so far, scoring 36 and conceding 6. Well done to Joey King and Paul Magson, joint managers. Unfortunately they lost their cup tie against Easingwold on penalties.
Our under 13's are stars of the radio; Laurie Thackray, their manager won a competition, the prize was for the team to be adopted by Radio York who interview players, parents and Laurie for match prediction and analysis. It is broadcast on Monday mornings and this has blossomed to television with the B.B.C. filming them playing and interviewing them at York City F.C. during the school holidays.
An award for last seasons under 14's girls, who won the N.R.C.F.A. Fair Play Award. Manager, Chris Freer, has worked hard to get girls junior football in Ryedale; he steered them to win their league at the first attempt and fully deserves this recognition.
Finally two of our goalkeepers Oliver Baxter, aged 11 and Elliot Purcell, aged 10, are to attend a goalkeeping course run by Nottingham Forest and Leicester City coaches during the school holidays at Thirsk; it is hoped that a course can take place at Pickering in the new year. Elliot has already been spotted by Huddersfield Town when playing for Scarborough & District Boys and looks a good prospect for the future.
Note... we have another website which is for the under 14's girls team who are newly sponsored by The Royal Mail Sports Foundation. Please use the link at the bottom of this page.
Enjoy the game. Barry Hood
