Leathley
The Leathley name is quite unique, being associated with the hamlet of Leathley, North Yorkshire, about three miles to the east of Otley. The aim of this page is to try and trace all the branches of the Leathley families in the hope of making the connections between them all. It is with some degree of confidence that it is possible all branches of the family originated from Yorkshire. The first recorded Leathley or De Lealei was a Norman knight who took possession of Percy land in Leathley and surrounding lands following the Conquest. Whilst it would be foolish to suggest any of the existing Leathleys are direct decendants of this noble, it would be interesting to see how far back the family can be traced. Although I am only a Leathley by marriage, I have continued on from the original research begun in the 1950's by my husbands great Aunt. I would be interested to hear from anyone with Leathley connections in the hope of piecing the jig saw together.
