Strong Batting Helps Melbourne Through

Melbourne 242 for 8
Malton & Old Malton 187 for 7

Will Nicholson (53) and Mal Harrison (51) started the Melbourne innings with an opening stand of 97. Will had started to put Malton’s bowling to the sword with some heavy blows and brought up his 50 with a six off Moore, before the bowler had his revenge. Brian Underwood followed Will shortly afterwards, being unlucky to blast his first ball straight at square leg, who made no mistake. Martin Kidd and Mal then took the Melbourne score to 140 before Martin was caught and Mal got his fifty and was promptly run out. Matt Beevers then came to the crease and built the Melbourne total to 242 at the break with an unbeaten top score of 54.
Malton lost early wickets to Kidd and Underwood, and after Toby Meegan ran his Captain out never looked like keeping up with the run rate. Toby then seemed unwilling to leave the crease and made amends, putting on 95 before falling to Mal Harrison off the last ball of the innings. Meanwhile Matt Beevers had clocked up another two dismissals behind the stumps, one being a bread and butter edge, the other a sharp stumping off the medium paced Kidd.
Thanks go to Ferngail Shopfitters for the match ball, and the Melbourne Arms for the aftermatch refreshments.
