Melbourne 121 for 2 off 13 overs

It was a shaky start for Thixendale with them being 2 wickets for 14 runs after the first 3 overs. Thixendale then settled down and got into their stride. They were helped greatly by an excellent innings from Ian Gilliat who hit 7 sixes to reach a total of 69 not out, assisting him was M Green [13], I Thompson 10 not out. Thixendale ended the 18 overs on 118 for 5 wickets. All the hours [and broken toes] spent in the nets at Dunnington paid off for Melbourne and there was some fine bowling from Greg Nesbitt who took 2 wickets for 21 runs and Robin Miller who didn't let the pressure of the captaincy get to him with figures of 1 for 14.
In reply for Melbourne it was a stroll in the park for Greg Nesbitt 63 and Ian Scott with a partnership of 97 ending with Nesbitt setting up an easy catch to allow some of the lower order to have a go. 12 balls and no further loss of wickets later it was all over with Ian Scott finishing on 49 not out and Melbourne getting off to an excellent start to the season.
