Acomb 211 for 6 Melbourne 131 all out Acomb won the toss and chose to bat in hot sunny conditions at Melbourne. Their openers took Acomb to 128 before losing a wicket as Melbourne fried in the field until there was a brief period of cloud cover, during which Underwood and Harrison struck four times to make Acomb 134 for 6. The sun came out again though and Melbourne saw their chances shrivelling in the heat as Acomb powered on, finishing on 211 for 6. In the cooler cloudier conditions after tea Melbourne kept in touch with the run rate, but lost wickets too quickly and steadily to compete. Despite promising innings of 18, 15, and 18 from Nicholson, Kidd and Underwood and good knocks from Wilson (23) and Steels(12), no-one stayed at the crease long enough to produce the major score required and Melbourne finished on 131 all out.
