Fletcher v Hitchcock

Here married in 1904 are Mr Joseph Fletcher to Miss Mary Hitchcock.

Joseph was born at Rosedale in 1875, his family moved to 3 Stable Cottages(1881 census) where he grew up, he later worked as a farm labourer and then at Upleatham Mine, along with his father, also called Joseph.

In 1901 Mary and the rest of her family are living at 6 Dale Street.Her father Henry is listed as a coal merchant/dealer. One of his sons James,(Jim)Hitchcock would continue in his fathers footsteps and run the 'Hitchcock' coal dealers and house removal business from Marske.


Joseph passed away at the young age of 50 in 1926, Mary in 1971 aged 93, both then of Great Ayton.
