The Stamford Bridge Singers . . . Our Story!
 | Stamford Bridge Singers started life as an extension to Stamford Bridge School Choir and was founded in order that the School Choir could celebrate its 21st Anniversary in 1990 by singing Vivaldi's Gloria. As the adult section grew, so did the desire of its members to perform more, and consequently it became a choir in its own right called Stamford Bridge Choir. At this stage the top line was still taken by the senior choristers of the School Choir. In 2000 the choir became totally independent of the School Choir, introducing sopranos to join the trebles on the top line. The Stamford Bridge Singers, as it was now called, became a member of the National Federation of Music Societies (Making Music), and voted in a committee which has proved invaluable in the running of the increasing number of commitments which the choir has. The Choir is unusual in that it has both young people and adults singing in it. This gives it the individual sound and character which has led to its popularity with audiences. The Choir retained its link with Stamford Bridge School until December 2006 when the choir's Musical Director, Michael Wiles, who was also head of Music at the school and conductor of the School Choir, retired from the school after 37 years. The Singers still continue to use the school as their base and for rehearsals.
