The Environmental Community Centre
 | The community centre has been designed to exemplify energy conservation and energy production from sustainable sources. It has a wind turbine and solar panels with surplus energy being sold onto the National Grid. Rainwater is collected and purified on site and then used for drinking and cleaning etc. and there are modern composting toilets rather than conventional flush toilets. The centre is open to the public and can be booked for meetings, group activities and events. Please feel free to visit us although if you would like somebody to show you around please phone ahead to book a time.
Staff from the centre look after the maintance of the park, with the help of the local community and the 'Friends of St Nicholas Fields' and run environmental education courses related to the National Curriculum.
The centre is also now the home of Wheel Alternatives yorks one and only cycle courier company. |
