BISHOPTHORPE Tennis Club
 | Bishopthorpe Village is to the South of York - just outside the A64 Ring Road. It's about 3 miles from York City Centre.
Take the Bishopthorpe Road out of town or the Tadcaster Road (A1036). |
|
Coming along the Tadcaster Road (A1036)...
On the A1036, turn left into SIM BALK LANE after you've passed Tesco's and the Sixth Form College. Continue over the flyover into Bishopthorpe and turn left at the 'T-junction' along MAIN STREET. Drive to the far end of Main Street, and before it bears sharply left, turn right into ACASTER LANE.

|
...or along the Bishopthorpe Road
Coming along the BISHOPTHORPE ROAD, you pass the Archbishop's palace on your left, and as the road bears right onto MAIN STREET, turn left into ACASTER LANE.
The Tennis Club is about 400 yards down ACASTER LANE, on the left, situated behind the Bowling Green. Walk through the signed gate immediately to the left of the Bowling Club.
See you there! |
BOSTON SPA Tennis Club
 | Take the A64 toward TADCASTER and turn off into Taddy on one of the A659 exits.
Turn RIGHT in Taddy and take the A659 - it's signposted to BOSTON SPA. |
|
|
 | The A659 becomes Boston Spa High Street. Turn LEFT down STABLES LANE just after Clifford Road and just before the Post Office. The Car Park is the 2nd right in STABLES LANE after The Close.

BUBWITH Tennis & Petanque Club
 | Head South toward Selby on the A19.
Then either turn left onto the A163 toward Bubwith, or cut the corner off by turning left at Escrick toward Skipwith and through North Duffield, joining the A163 just before Bubwith. |
|
|
 | The A163 is Bubwith Main Street. The Courts are at the far east end of the village, on the right hand side. Prior to getting there, you'll pass both ends of Church Street.
The entrance to the Club is thoroughly concealed. There is a sign at the entrance, but this can't be seen if you're travelling eastward along Main Street. However, on the low wall directly opposite the entrance (ie on the left), is a 'Main Street' sign. The Club entrance is on the right.
There ARE 3 Courts now at this site. In previous years, the third pair had to play in splendid isolation at the other end of the Village. No more. Also, Bubwith often offer their 'tea' at the Village pub in Ellerton - check out the map for the route there.
Petanque? - it's just balls (metal ones). |
