Dunnington
 | | Dunnington lies between the Hull Road and Stamford Bridge Road. The Tennis Club is most easily arrived at by turning off the Hull Road - the A1079, at Four Lane Ends. |
|
|
 | The Club is on the right just before the Village itself, on Common Road.
Dunnington have synthetic 'carpet' Courts, which are routinely given a sand covering. This can make them quite slippery to play on, so check the tread on your trainers... |

Escrick
Escrick is just a tad down the A19 SELBY ROAD. Exit off the A64 by-pass and head on down...
...or you can bike it! You'll need to exit the SUSTRANS (red dotted line above), where it intersects with MOOR LANE just South of NABURN.
Follow MOOR LANE East as it meanders past fields and eventually becomes NABURN LANE (you won't notice!). NABURN LANE then joins the A19 SELBY ROAD just a quarter mile North of ESCRICK. Easy.
Just over 4 miles from Bish, maybe 8.5 miles from York Centre - along the SUSTRANS - possibly only 7 miles if you cycle direct from town along the A19.
|
|

From the A19, coming from York, ESCRICK is on your left.
Skip the first left to Escrick - SKIPWITH ROAD, appropriately. Take the SECOND LEFT into MAIN STREET instead.
The entrance to the Car Park is about 100 yards along on your LEFT.
There are only 2 Courts at the Club site (shown), BUT on match days the Club also has use of the Queen Margaret's School Tennis Courts.
The School is further on, about a half-mile South along Main Street, but it's advised to stop in at the Club first and they'll direct you, if you are indeed playing there. |
Fulford Tennis Club
 | Get onto the A19 Fulford Road either from Town or via the eastbound A64.
Turn into Heslington Lane. |
|
|
 | Turn RIGHT into Fulfordgate - the second right - and after School Lane. The Courts are at the end of Fulfordgate, on your right as you approach.
The Club doesn't have any parking per se, but people tend to use the School Car Park. I'm not sure if this is entirely sanctioned by the School or whether the School gates would be open at weekends. If not, then it's Street parking!
Fulford have three Courts at the Club. They often use the Courts in the School grounds for matches. This is an old aerial photo - the School Courts have been renovated. There's no longer surface gravel, and they're now painted a healthy green colour! |

Heworth Tennis Club
 | Heworth Tennis Club is where the green cross is.
Choose your own preferred route to get there. It's just off the A1036, which is the Tadcaster Road at our side of town.
The easiest (although longest) way, is to take the A64 Ring Road and exit at the A1036 towards York. Ignore the myriad signs for Monks Cross and continue toward York on the A1036.
Just past the Brecks Garage and then a Car Parts outlet on your right, you'll come to a small roundabout. Take the 2nd left down HEWORTH ROAD (see map below) and then right at the Traffic Lights into East Parade. The Club will then be on your left, after SECOND AVENUE. |
|
|
 | The Tennis Club in Heworth is hidden away off EAST PARADE. Parking is on-street only - and can be problematic.
There are only two Courts at the Club itself, but for matches they also use an additional Court at a nearby park - just 3 mins walk away. There are floodlights, but I don't know if they're used for mid-week matches (possibly no need to).
East Parade is an extension of LAYERTHORPE and runs parallel to the A1036 out of York toward Monks Cross and Malton.
The Club is at the end of a long path behind a gated entrance next to no.90 East Parade. 90 East Parade is between BULL LANE and SECOND AVENUE, a bit further along and on the opposite side to the row of shops which includes the Post Office and the CO-OP.
The Club entrance is opposite and a tiny bit further on from the Doctor's Surgery and the Vet's. So, if you you end your match feeling '....as sick as a parrot' you won't have far to go.

Knaresborough TC
 | This is the most Westerly of the venues in the York local Leagues (I think). So the above map has a discontinuation.
It's fairly straight forward - just take the A59 Boroughbridge Road (sign-posted HARROGATE) past Poppleton and continue over the
A1(M) (roundabout) until you come to the outskirts of Knaresborough.
Despite the straightforward route, it's worth including because Knaresborough doesn't seem to appear on Multimap... |
|
|
 | Knaresborough play their matches at the King James School courts, just off the A59 York Road (called the Boroughbridge Road at the York end).
The School is this side (East) of Knaresborough centre - so if you find yourself bearing hard left and crossing the river, then you've gone too far.
Still on the A59, just past the B6164 Wetherby Road junction on your left, you'll see a cemetery - also on the left.
The cemetery fields end with the School buildings and then you'll need to turn LEFT into King James Road.
Take the first left again into the King James School driveway, and continue until the end where the Car Park is. The Courts are just beyond the Car Park. Plenty to choose from and a lovely view! |
