Nestlé

The Nestlé Tennis Club is under the large, red cross!

It's just North of the City Centre, beyond GILLYGATE, up the HAXBY ROAD, to the right of the Nestlé Rowntree offices.

Travelling from YORK, drive up the HAXBY ROAD, keeping the Nestlé Rowntree Offices on your left.

Immediately after the offices (on the left) will be some SPORTS FIELDS with the entrance to the Tennis Courts on your RIGHT, just before the ALLOTMENTS.

Parking is in front of the Courts.

New Earswick

New Earswick Tennis Club is off the HAXBY ROAD - just a little further on from NESTLÉ (see maps at the top).

You can get onto the HAXBY ROAD very easily either from YORK City Centre, or off the RING ROAD (A1237).

From York, leave the City Centre via GILLYGATE and continue straight ahead as it turns into the HAXBY ROAD (see the map for NESTLÉ above)

From the A1237, leave the RING ROAD at the 2nd Roundabout clockwise along from TESCO, and head toward the City Centre along the HAXBY ROAD.

As you come into New Earswick, you'll pass on your left, a large white building with 'FOLK HALL' in black lettering (Make sure you touch wood as you pass, otherwise you'll score a duck in all your rubbers. It's true... it really is).

Take the next left after FOLK HALL, into LIME TREE AVENUE. The Tennis Club is next left, up a narrow road.

Please note that although there IS a Car Park along this narrow road (off Lime Tree Avenue), the residents there consider it to be their own, and aren't fond of Tennis players using it.

Best to park on street and consult with New Earswick Club members as to what's what.

Next Generation

The Next Generation Fitness Club is just off the A1079 HULL ROAD, East of York City Centre.

You can get onto the A1079 from the INNER RING ROAD, heading out of York at the traffic lights at the BARBICAN gate.

It's probably easier to head into York by off the A64 BY-PASS at the HULL ROAD roundabout - signposted YORK A1079.

The entrance to the NEXT GENERATION site, is from the southern arm of WINDMILL LANE, right at the junction with the A1079 HULL ROAD.

Plenty of Car Parking outside the building, but be mindful of bay markings, and don't park where you shouldn't - or you might get clamped.

At the Reception, just make clear that you're there for a League Match and you're in the Away team, and you WILL be let in without charge. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Unless it's tipping down, the matches are played on the artificial grass Courts outside. If you're not used to it, you'll find this surface plays extremely fast - like grass - although it takes topspin particularly well - unlike grass.

Inside the centre, you'll find a restaurant, a bar, a gym, swimming pools, showers, lounges and tellies - so you might be tempted to bring plenty of money and some extra kit?

Pocklington

Take the Hull Road (A1079) out of York, and travel to just beyond Barmby Moor.

Turn left after the Industrial Estate toward Pocklington, into the road called West Green.

The Tennis Courts are first left, past the Airfield, and up a small lane. There is parking to the left of the Courts as you approach.

Poppleton Lawn Tennis Club

....and if you don't know where Poppy is...then God bless you!

It's just off the A59, so either head out of the City, West on the Boroughbridge Road (A59) or get on the A1237 by-pass and head North.

Turn left off the by-pass at the roundabout signposted Harrogate A59, and then take the FIRST RIGHT into Station Road.

Along Station Road, over the Level Crossing (which can be a good 10 minute wait when closed), and onwards toward the War Memorial....

Coming along Station Road, you'll pass the Post Office on your left, and then you'll come to a tiny roundabout-thingy, which I believe is a War Memorial.

Turn right at the memorial, and proceed along Main Street, passing a School / Library on your left followed immediately by the Tennis Club. The Club is on your left again and is fairly well concealed from the road, but you might catch a glimpse through the trees and bushes.

The Car Park entrance is just after the Courts. There is tarmac parking at the side, and a large dirt parking lot at the rear of the Sports complex.

Note that the Tennis Club is an appendage to the Sports Complex, and on occasion the large complex-building is entirely locked offering no access to toilets and water for Tennis players.

I don't know if that policy has changed in recent years, but to be on the safe side, bring your own water, and go before you.... well, go.
