Joy Wilton 20-30 years British Champion
What It Takes To Be A British Champion!
We dragged ourselves out of bed at 5:30am to allow for the three and half hour journey to Ipswich.
After the apparatus warm-up Joy was told she would have to wait 4 hours before she could compete! So why bother warming up! We could have had an extra 4 hous in bed!
Joy eventually started her competition on beam. She performed a very clean and solid routine achieving a score of 8.65.
Next to Vault (Why not olympic order?) Joy was the only competitor in her category to perform a somersault vault. She scored 8.00 on a piked Tsuki. Well Done. The judge said 'I expect she has being doing that vault since she was twelve' Joy replied 'I learnt to Tsuki at 27 after I had 2 operations on my knee!'
Bars. Once again Joy gave a faultless performance to score 8.85.
Finally to Floor. What a way to finish a 8 hour competition. Opening the routine with a stuck one and a half twist. Joy completed the routine with energy, style and precision to score 8.65.
Joy beat the opposition by 2 whole marks. Despite everything that had happened that day!
