White Rose Triathletes have been together since 1991. a group of York based Triathletes who had been racing and training together in an easy going way decided to organise themselves on a more regulart basis in order to enjoy the sport and to promote Triathlon in the York area. The decision was taken at a meeting held at the White Rose public house, (the club name has nothing to do with the pub, it is just an odd coincidence).
The club has been affiliated to the British Triathlon Association (BTA) from the start and has promoted a race; the York Duathlon (500m swim, 10Km run) every year since April 1991. In 1999 a second event, the White Rose Duathlon (5Km run, 30Km cycle, 5Km run) was organised at Stamford bridge and is now an established event on the race calendar. Both events are used to promote the sport and to raise funds for the club. So far these events have been successful and no club subscriptions have been necessary.
The club meets on the first Sunday of every month at the Golden Slipper public house in Goodramgate, York at 8pm to discuss business, pass around entry forms and have a general chat.
