More Fishing.
(25th March 2006.) We have now acquired the rights to fish the Selby Canal from Selby Basin to Brayton Bridge. This will be a day Ticket water. Parking is available behind the industrial estate, along the bank adjacent to the fishing platforms, at the "Basin" end. At the Brayton Bridge end, parking is available over the bridge on the right hand side. Turn right off the A1041, after passing the A63 junction, crossing the railway and the canal. Fishing is left hand bank from Brayton Bridge to the Doncaster road bridge, then right hand bank down to the basin. (8th May 2004).
We have successfully negotiated a mile and a half stretch of the River Nidd at Goldsborough, for a period of three years. It may be fished, from now until June 16th, with fly or worm only for Trout, thence as for coarse fish. Take the A59 from York, crossing the A1, then left to "Goldsborough only". Follow the road to the Public House ahead of you, turn right, then left down Midgeley Road (Lane), for just over a mile onto a concrete 'block' on the right hand side. A track (Approx a quarter of a mile) leads from this to roughly the middle of the water.
=============================================== (7th July 2004). We have successfully negotiated approximately four and a half miles of the River Rye at Newsham Bridge, (But just for one year from 1st July to assess whether it will be used enough to retain it in future years). We may fish the right hand bank (looking downstream), above the bridge for some considerable distance, and approximately half a mile of the stream that enters the Rye at the upstream end of the stretch. Downstream of the bridge we may fish the left hand bank down to the first fence, and the right hand bank for roughly one mile. Parking. Just before the bridge on the right hand side there is a road that leads to the farm. We are allowed to park in the 'stackyard', about halfway down the water. For the left hand bank park over the bridge. For the upstream section, go through the gate (which MUST be closed after use) on the left of the road, and drive along the track to your chosen fishing spot. Members fishing the water are requested to let us know when they went, as we wish to assess the usage of this water. If it is not used, then it will be let go. =============================================== (1st August 2005.) Newsham bridge has re-negotiated for a further two years to 30th June 2007. =============================================== (7th September 2005). From 1st September, for a two year period (31st August 2007) we have negotiated the fishing rights for the water we know as “Sellars’s”, on the right bank of the Ouse from Skelton railway bridge to the beck at the downstream end of the field below the A1237 ring road. At the moment access is fairly limited, this being from roads approaching the Millfield and the Living Well. There is a roundabout at the end of the approach road, from which there is a track leading to the ‘tunnel’ under the railway. Parking is on the roadside (neatly), or, if very dry, there is a small parking area to the left of the tunnel entrance. This will hold ten cars, parked pretty, four at either side and two down the middle. Once through the tunnel under the railway the left hand gate is the entrance to the fishing. We now have access to this water from the 'top' end, parking opposite the church at Poppleton, not within 25 yards of the gate, through which you go down the track to the railway bridge. We also have the fishing rights from the railway bridge, upstream to the Poppleton village boundary. ------------------------------------------------------------- |
