Club Hosts Cross Country League Race
For the first time in the North Yorkshire and South Durham League's 102 year history, York Acorn Running club hosted its sixth race on the Knavesmire Racecourse on March 5th. In past years former club members Ged Hemblade and Joanna Dunstan have both won at Middlesbrough in the league.
Sue Jones is 2nd vet and 3rd female overall in the Easter 10K, Nottingham in 42mins 44secs.
Sandra Hood wins 2nd over 40 prize at Goole's multi-terrain one third marathon in 62mins 21secs.
Men compete in North of England 12 stage road race relay championships for fifth successive year.
Acorn in combined team with Rowntree AC clock their best time of 13hrs 24mins to finish 2nd behind winners Loftus 13hrs 03mins in the 16th off road Cleveland Relay, organised by the Acorn Running Club.
Three off road wins for Julie Bushell.
25mile Blubberhouses Moor 4hrs 12mins - 36mile Peakland Heritage 6hrs 14mins - 30mile Bryer Stone, near Scarborough in atrocious, muddy conditions 5hrs 27mins

Acorn win trophies at York & District RR League

Women win six and men three shields in The York and District Road Race Summer League. The women took 2nd and the men 3rd team prize. Steve Simpson was 6th overall. Sue Jones was 2nd overall and 2nd veteran. Catherine Fleming 3rd woman and also 3rd in the handicap behind teamate Julie Simpson.
Win Lawn won the over 55 shield again and Howard Winzar was well placed in the over 50 age category to take 3rd prize and Geoffrey Hope was joint 2nd with John dale of Selby Striders in the over 60 category.

British Success for Du-Athlete Hawxby in World Championship!

Acorn's tough endurance specialist, Colin Hawxby was the first Britian home in the World Du-Athlon Championships (10K run-45K bike ride-5K run) in Calais, October 2000, finishing 20th overall.
New club member, Bob Duncan, still tired after Dublin Marathon(2hrs 38mins) finishes an impressive 2nd in the Elsicar 12mile multi-terrain race near Barnsley in 1hr 12mins.
Julie Simpson 3rd woman and Win Lawn wins age group category in hilly Kirkbymoorside 10K Road Race. Howard Winzar is well placed and wins 2nd over 50 vets title twice in 5K, 10K and half marathon road races across Britain.
Gerry Orchard teams with Ian Jones from Cambridge to finish 4th in the long score event of The Karrimor 2day Mountain Marathon. Nick Ford teaming with Pete Summers also completes this challenge.

Clubman and Clubwomen of the year (2000)
Steve Simpson won the 'Clubman of the Year Award' for the second year running and Julie Simpson took the 'Clubwoman' title, with veteran awards going to Jerry Barnes and Julie Hills.
Win Lawn won the senior vets age category and Howard Winzar the mens' equivalent in the 'Lloyds TSB' sponsored awards organised by Dave Elliott.

2001 - Bob Duncan is Yorkshire Half Marathon Champion

Road Captain, Bob Duncan retains Yorkshire Half Marathon Championship Veteran Title at Bridlington in 74minutes 23seconds. Bob also takes the Yorkshire Veteran Fell Championship Award at Baildon Moor, leading from start to finish over the six mile course.
In the Benidorm Marathon Bob is 3rd veteran in 2hrs 40mins 25secs and is at the forefront in contributing to the club's team successes as well as his individual achievements this year.
Brass Monkey Half Marathon - 3rd Vet, 9th overall 74mins 25secs.
Snake Lane 10 - 3rd vet, 10th overall 55m 15s
Wigginton 10K - 3rd vet, 8th overall 34m 07s
Sheffield Half Marathon - 2nd vet(Only seconds denying Bob the title.)7th overall in 74m 02s
Wins Veteran Title in York and District 10K Road Race League Series and is also Veteran Winner in the very hilly Netherthong 10K. 3rd overall in 37mins 04secs.

Steve Simpson on form!
Steve Simpson is first Britain home in the Benidorm Half Marathon in 74mins 23secs, 16th overall, but excels in the Sheffield Half Marathon to finish 5th from a field of 1777 runners in a personal best time of 73mins 51secs.
In the Northern Cross Country Championships his superb club record 86th position leads Acorn to top 20 placing. He also takes club to highest placing in the 41st National Cross Country Championships in his 230th position from 1227 competitors.

Paul Goble wins Summer League Road Race series

Paul Goble won The York and District Road Race League Title with Andy Burt 2nd and Win Lawn taking her age category award yet again.
For the FIRST time Acorn's men win the league team trophy....!
In the 4 X 2mile Road Relays, marking the end of the North Yorkshire and South Durham X Country Series Paul ran the fastest leg ensuring 3rd team position from 20 teams, his time, 9mins 55secs.
The vets were 2nd and 6th overall, and in the Yorkshire Road Relays at don Valley Stadium, Paul was 6th.

Team success for women
Julie Simpson 2nd in her age category and 3rd overall in a personal best time of 40mins 50secs in The White Rose Triathletes' inaugural 10K Road Race at Stamford Bridge and backed by Womens' Captain, Joanne Simpson and Heather McIntosh wins team title.
Martin Kirby is 6th out of the field of 136.
Only ONE point denies Acorn's women the team title from Rothwell Harriers in the Ackworth Mid-Summer 10K with an impressive run from Dawn Gibbs, 2nd overall and 1st in her age category in 41mins 40secs. Joanne Simpson and Suzanne Dale
completed the team.
Joanne Simpson, Suzanne Dale and Heather McIntosh are also team winners in the Wigginton 10K Road Race.
NINE YORK ACORN MEN AND WOMENS' TEAMS run in the Selby 5 X 2.6mile Road Relays.
Our women are 2nd and men 3rd.(Male vets 2nd)

More team success for men

Veteran men finish 3rd in their first Yorkshire Veteran League season ran over nine races.
Edging out Bingley Harriers with Holmfirth 2nd and Wakefield clear winners, Veteran Captain, Jerry Barnes finished the series in a creditable 6th position having missed only one race from the series. Jerry was strongly backed by Andy Normandale 8th, John Duston 17th, Les Burton 27th, Bob Duncan 33rd and Paul Young 49th.
Over 60 miles of fells around Halifax, the men produced a record breaking performance in The Calderdale Way Relays to finish 22nd.
In the Netherthong 10K Road Race Acorn share 1st team prize with Holmfirth Harriers and in the Tholthorpe 10K Road Race Andy Hilton outsprints rival competitors ensuring Acorn another team win.

Heather in the Hebrides

Heather McIntosh wins very hilly Barrathon Half Marathon, Isle of Barra, Out Hebrides in 1hr 46mins 36secs. Heather has been well placed in other races throughout the year and with a few personal bests...has had an excellent season.
PHIL PAXMAN - wins over 50 vets title in Burnley Half Marathon.
JULIE HILLS - was 2nd in her age category in The Christmas Cracker 10K.
COLIN UTTERSON - was 2nd in his age category in the Snake Lane 10mile Road Race.
MARK DOWSON - clocks 80mins 43secs in his debut half marathon attempt and raises nearly £200 in sponsored bunjee jump.
ROWNTREE/NESTLE JUNIOR UNDER 13 GIRLS - don the red and black Acorn vests in their debut race for the club, finishing a brilliant 4th in the England Young Athlete Road relay, Sutton Park, Birmingham.
COLIN HAWXBY - is selected for World Du-athlon Championships in Holland.
DAVE CHAPLIN - leads teammates home in the London Marathon in which Jenny Rowland completes her 30th full marathon and Julie Hills her first. Jenny and Julie along with Geoffrey Hope and Dave Elliott raise £1639 for Martin House Childrens' Hospice.
NICK FORD - completes Karrimor Mountain Marathon for 5th successive year and with Jim Benson is well placed in the multi-terrain 'Wild Race Series.'
MARTIN NICE - provides £300 in sponsorship for club.
ACE CHARITY FUND RAISER, ANDY HEPPELL - completes his 125th half marathon.
