Martin Kirby then ran a superb 24.07 and teenagers Sandy Cowan (24.19) and Paul Priestley (26.59) excelled to pull the club through to 25th.

On't' fells we took a bit of a caning by the very fellish ( new word ) North Yorkshire moors ac on a testing couse where one of the main problems was how togetback from Hanging Stone . Some of us had to stop and ask.....
Anyway Burt 4,Hawksby 12, Barnes 23 and Hetherton 32 couldn't match the local lads and a great womens performance by Grindley ,Grindley and Cerry wasn't enough to beat a strong Northumberland team .
Good practice though.....
Next one is Guisborough on 27 December. Flat, even conditions not promised......

Men compete at English Fell relays at Hayfield
Yes, a club record ,although as it was our first time there no suprise. Jerry Barnes was on first leg and after struggling for much of the race ,picked off around ten runners on the descent to finish 57th. on a leg which basically consisted of a circular ascent to Kinder downfall from Hayfield resevoir. Normandale and Ratcliffe then gained 11 places as the murk lifted on a longer leg including a further 1,000 feet of ascent.
Gerry Orchard and Steve Mummery battled hard on the navigational leg to leave us in 62nd. place and Jim Shemilt concluded with a reverse of Barnes leg.
Dark Peak took mens and womens prizes in a great event. Good organisation ,varied but mainly runnable course and beautiful scenery.
