Leeds Abbey Dash 27-11-05
The day started off very cold, with even at one stage a hint of a wintery shower. Although, by the time the gun went off, 3300 runners went parading up the Kirstall Road. Around th 6km mark Nick McCormick had stuck his neck out and was around 50m in front and was to hold on to his lead to record a very solid 29m17secs. Not far behind but ahead of his Knavemire Rival, Cameron, was Andy Hilton with a time of 32:30. The womens race was well contested with some Birhan Dagne fresh from her very recent overseas excursion to record a time of 34mins. But a great showing by our own Dawn Gibbs to post a sub 40min time of 39:35, which was good for 3rd in the F45 group.
Others in the run were Steve Korobejko 41:39 and Stuart Thomas 44:23.
Another great event in Leeds, which even the cold weather couldn't hamper.

Update 26.6.05
Acorn in dramatic Cleveland Way Relay win !
More to follow but due to more than a little luck and a whole load of graft Acorn sneaked victory away from a Loftus team which has dominated the event for well over a decade partly due to the Loftus runner getting lost on the last leg allowing Andy Nesome to do the business. Loftus are a brilliant club who prioritise this event so to go on to 'their manor' and get a result is something special...
Heros ( and heroine ) were on a long hot summers day
Ratcliffe Filey to Corner cafe 2nd. 30 secs . behind
Nice Corner to cloughton 90 secs. behind
Lawes Cloughton to Robin Hoods Bay 5 mins. in front
Grindley Robins to Hawkser bottoms 4 mins in front
Paxman Hawkser to Whitby abbey 3 mins. in front
Normandale abbey to Runswick 5 mins. behind
Simpson Runswick to Skinni 11 mins. behind
Ratcliffe Skinni to Saltburn 11 mins. behind
Barnes Saltburn to Slapwath 12 mins. behind
Burt Slapwath to gribdale 13 mins. behind
Isherwood Grib. to moor 12 mins. behind
Raynes Moors to Clay 12 mins. behind
Shemilt Clay to Carlton 14 mins. behind
Kirby Carlton to Osmotherley 16 mins. behind
Hilton Os to Sneck Yate 8 mins. behind
Lawn Sneck to Hambleton inn 8 mins. behind
Nesome Hambleton to Hemsley 1min. 30 in front...............
And while we're at it good luck to Steve Ratcliffe who will soon move to Milton Keynes and to Jenny Grindley who has a teaching job in Cumbria. Hopefully both will be back to run relays for us and Steve today was absolutely superb alongside our other student hero Tim Lawes who will hopefully be succesful in getting a place at medical college. All three are great young people who have brought tons to our club so thank you.
All in all a great day and what a week of success for the club and great evidence of the continuing success of our partnership with Rowntrees ac .Well done to all concerned from the young teenager who ran and helped to win the Selby relays to Jim Shemilt with a blinding run today...

A hundred photos from last weeks Whorlton Chase including the usual Acorn suspects on www.nym.ac
Update 15.6.05
Wheldrake fun results now available. Go to the York Acorn/Nestle races 2005 link.
A good turnout for last nights Whorlton Chase fell race from Swainby. The race includes a large road section at the start and finish and most of the climb in the first couple of miles up to and above the cattle grid on the road to Osmotherley. Most of our lads and lasses seemed to find it pretty hard and in arace won by Paul Lowe we were well outclassed in the team race. Andy Normandale finished approximately 7th. ,Steve Ratcliffe 14 ,Jerry Barnes 15 ,Steve Mummery 23 , Phil Paxman 27 with Mike Hetherton probably mid thirties. Jenny Grindley was 5th. woman.
Ninas Club record
Dave Paver has pointed out that Nina Griffith probably only recorded 38 mins. at Easingwold. Her record therefore stands at 37.58 for the recent Crouch End 10k
Update 12.6.05

Many thanks to all the marshalls and to Stuart for all his work in organising it.
Update 9.6.05
Nina Griffith breaks club record at Easingwold 10k. Not a fast or flat course but Nina crushed Clare's recent record .According to local athletics guru Mike Raynes Nina has been following schedules organised by Frank Horwill. You can go to the Serpentine Running club website for a taster of these. Clue....They don't include many steady runs with Mcdonough and Barnes in them .....
Anyway a superb achievement and great to see such a combined team of youth and experience (Griffith,Douglas,Grindley,Ellerton )comfortably winning the team race.
Men also did well taking the first and third team places .The first team was Goble,Raynes, Isherwood,Tom ,Kirby and Nesome and good to see Dave Chaplin again running in the red and black.
Full results on www.ukresults.net
Next fell race is Whorlton next Tuesday from Swainby. This is mainly either road or 'not too bad terrain ' so road shoes a good idea unless really wet.
If you want to enter the world masters fell champs. at Skiddaw in early September go to www.fellrunner.org.uk Few of lads already down to run.

Update 27.2.05
All our club were sorry to hear about the death of Ronnie Gillings at the age of 50. A great character ,Ronnie enjoyed food, drink and running and all our club will have a favourite memory of him. During the early nineties he regulary turned out as our sixth counter at cross country events and for many years was a summer league regular. For someone of his size and disability to do this was an achievement greater than most of us will ever achieve. I think he probably lived his life to the full and although he hadn't been at our club for sometime many of us will still have spotted him out and about...Well miss him...
