Code of Conduct
GENERAL
The York minor Leagues's am is to provide sport - association footbal - for players between the age of 11 and 17. While winning is very pleasnat, the League does not exist to provide a platform for glor hunters (either players or parents) - a team that loses every game has equal status with a team that wins every game. Players in the League, especially at the lower age group, are very impressionable. Adults should be seen to set a god example and promote the right attitude to players at all times. Referees should be respected at all times and must not be verbally or physically abused under any circumstances. It a referee makes a mistake, it is not done deliberately ad should not be vilified for it. Every goal that has been scored has always been the result ofa player's mistake somewhere along the line. No one should question the referee's decisions, nor try to referee the game themselves. The referee will always be willing to discuss any points about a game after its completion if approached in a pleasant manner. All League rules are sanctioned by the FA - indeed, many of these rules are dictated by te FA and are mandatory. Players are expected to play within the Laws of the Game. The club has a responsibility to educate its players and parents on these Laws. All team managers should have access to a copy of the Laws of soccer, League and cup regulations. There is absolutely no place for racial abuse of any description. This will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
PLAYERS
A player should always be in control of himself and abide by the rules.
Never argue with the referee or any official. Referees, managers and coaches give their valuable time and effort to help you learn the game.
Show courtesy to your opponents at a times and practice good sportsmanship at all times.
Play to the best of your ability and remember that football is a team game.
Always accept victory modestly ad accept defeat graciously.
Violent play and bad language are not acceptable under any circumstances. Players guilty of such behaviour not nly let themselves down, but also their parents, their club, their team manager / coach and also the League.
Do not retaliate - even when provoked.
Shake hands with the referee and your opponents at the end of every game, irrespective of the result.
Rings and jewellery must be removed or covered - the referee can order you from the field of play until this is done.
PARENT / SUPPORTERS
Behave - unseemy behaviour will not be tolerated. The club will be held accountanble for your actions and could face the ultimate penalty of explulsion from the York Minor League.
Discipline yourself and your language in front of impressionable children. Children want to look up to their parents - not be ashamed of them.
Condemn all violence and never question the decision of any officials. Referees know far more about the Laws of the Game than you and will always receive the backing from the FA and the League.
Remember that your children are involved in football for their own enjoyment - not to meet your expectations.
Never ridicule a player for making a mistake. Respect their efforts. Applaud all good play from both sides.
Be friendly and courteous to the opposition, players, parents and supporters alike. Be supportive of the manager / coach.
If you see anyone stepping out of line, it is your duty to either attempt to calm the situation or draw it to the attention of club officials present at the game.
