Information about the League

The York & District Leeper Hare Football League.

This season is the League’s one hundred and third, having been founded in 1897 when nine Clubs competed in the inaugural season. The nine were:-
York St Clements, Ebor Wanderers, York Wednesday, York Trinity, Easingwold, Rowntrees, Bishopthorpe, Acomb and Ulleskelf. Easingwold, Bishopthorpe and Rowntrees are still League members but only Rowntrees have enjoyed an unbroken existence since 1897.

Today the League comprises fifty one Clubs fielding eighty eight teams in seven Divisions. Matches are played on Saturday afternoons although evening matches are played in August by the Premier Division. The Premier Division enjoys the status of a “Supply League” in the Scheme of promotion for Referees.
