Weekend 19/20 July
CLIFTON Alliance moved to the top of division two of the HPH York Vale Cricket League after another rain-hit weekend.
Virtually all the Saturday games were ruin by rain, enabling Alliance to leapfrog York University Staff by beating Fulfordgate by seven wickets on Sunday.
David Heartshorne (5-31) and Chris Elliott (3-18) bowled Fulfordgate out for 99, leaving Ali Lloyd (51no) to complete the job with ease.
Staff's game against Kelfield the previous day saw Mumtaz Hussein score a 40-ball 79 which included nine sixes, as the academics declared at 182-8. Mike Richardson (6-69) shone for Kelfield who were in with a big chance when the rains came with 4.4 overs to go. Phil Smith (79no) and Alex Rhodes (39) put on 100 for Kelfield's second wicket.
The wily Dave Brumitt snared 5-47 for Ovington as Copmanthorpe spluttered to 97-9.
No games in division one produced a positive result although York's batsmen got in plenty of practice against Askham Bryan with James Hepworth (72) and Mark Thomas (50) shining in their 179-4.
Hemingbrough's game against North Duffield was finely balanced when the weather intervened. Duffield made 176-7 and Hemingbrough were on 127-6 when the sides went off with 14.3 overs left.
Stockton & Hopgrove jumped into second place in division three thanks to a rapid 10-wicket win at Thorpe Willoughby. Richard Grimes was almost unplayable, taking 6-10 in eight overs as Thorpe crumbled to 47 all out.
Acomb also improved their promotion chances by defeating Thixendale by 34 runs. David Skilbeck top scored with 58 in Acomb's 150-5 before Farath Ansar (4-18) put the villagers on the defensive.
Hemingbrough II opened up a 78-point lead at the head of division four after bowling out Burton Salmon for 72, Andy Rowley taking 5-28.
Ovington II remain anchored at the bottom as their batting failed against Copmanthorpe II. They were skittled for 45 with Ben McLeod (5-13) and John Traves (4-24) to the fore.
Julian Green grabbed 6-49 as Selby II dominated against Bishopthorpe II who were bowled out for 155. Steve Cruise hit 60 and Jeff Knight, dropped at slip on nought, was unbeaten on 54 when the game was called off with Selby well poised on 136-4.
Selby II's Kevin Rich produced a sparkling century in their rain-affected division five game against division five. He cleared the ropes three times and smacked 11 boundaries in his 111 out of Selby's 154-7.
Huntington's Martin Coyle was also eyeing a century, reaching 82 not out against Burn II when the heavens opened.
Bottom side Thorpe Willoughby clocked up a back-to-back victories by beating Tadcaster Magnets by ten runs. Tad, chasing 107 to win were well set at 65-2 but collapsed against Steve Craven (5-19).

Second division side Ben Johnson have been deducted 30 points and fined £25 for fielding an ineligible player.
Danny Cameron, who was still registered as an Ovington player, featured in three BJ's victories earlier in the season.

Press Performance of the Week
After weeks of the ball dominating on wet wickets, Kevin Rich's 111 for Selby II against York RI in division five was a remarkable effort.

SIXTEEN-YEAR-OLD Ben McLeod had Ovington II in a fog with his bowling on Saturday.
He took 5-13 as Copmanthorpe II bowled the Little Knavesmire-based side out for just 45 in their HPH York Vale Cricket League division four game.
The teenager was backed up by the experienced John Traves (4-24) and Cop sped to an eight wicket win before the rain, which ended most of the games prematurely, descended.
Tom Collins, who played for Yorkshire Under-14s earlier in the week, took 3-3 in three overs to support Andy Rowley (5-28) as Hemingbrough II shot out Burton Salmon for 72 on their way to a six-wicket win.
Teenager Luke Phillipo took 3-27 for Woodhouse Grange as they bowled out Wheldrake for 129.
James Hepworth, aged 16, top scored with 72 in York's 179-4 against Askham Bryan in division one before the heavens opened.
Also in the runs in the top division was Burn's Adam Prescott, the 2005 Young Player of the Year. The 17-year-old hit an unbeaten 38 in his side's 160-6 against Bishopthorpe before rain stopped play.
The much anticipated battle between division five's top dogs - Goole and Pocklington - also fell victim to the weather but not before 14-year-old Dane Neal had made 47 for Goole.
Matthew Shepherd's heroic innings of 79 was not quite enough to clinch Woodhouse Grange a place in the Premier Sports Cup final.
The 16-year-old helped Grange recover from the loss of three early wickets against Bishopthorpe II to finish on 168-9 - 16 runs short of victory.
Bishopthorpe II will face Goole in the final after 14-year-old Daniel Cooper's innings of 31 and 3-13 earned the Carr Lane side victory over Burn II in the other semi-final.

BISHOPTHORPE II will tackle Goole in the final of the York Vale Cricket League's Premier Sports Cup next month after they emerged victorious from their semi-finals.
Both semis were tense affairs with a young Woodhouse Grange outfit giving Bishopthorpe a real run for their money.
The Bishops made 183-9 thanks to 88 from Andy Spence and opener Ben Smith's 31 as Grange's eight bowlers were made to toil.
It looked like being all over quickly when Grange were 6-3 in reply but teenager Matthew Shepherd put on 90 with skipper Colin Smith. The youngster was manouvering Grange into a really threatening position until he lost his off stump to John Latermer's first delivery.
Once Shepherd was out for 79 Grange lost momentum and Bishopthorpe won by 15 runs.
Daniel Cooper was Goole's match-winner in their 14-run victory over Burn II. His top score of 31 and 3-13 in six overs was the difference between the sides.
North Duffield were given a scare by ten-man Heworth before claiming a place in the Mitchell Cup semi-finals.
Duffield posted 200-9 - which included an invaluable 41 extras - off their 40 overs and looked set for an early afternoon when they had Heworth labouring on 5-2.
But Paul Flint's 66, which included three sixes, and 57 from skipper Steve Parkinson, which also featured three maximums, kept valiant Heworth in the hunt. They fell ten runs short in the final over and had they had another batsman could well have reversed the result.
All of Duffield's bowlers took a wicket while Lee Wild and David Bielby both scored 33 for the victors who face Burn on Sunday for a place in the final against either York or Ovington.
Darren Horsford (66) and Martin Coyle (61) shone as Huntington crushed Copmanthorpe II by 122 runs to ease into the Headley Memorial Cup semi-finals.

Weekend 12th July
OVINGTON moved closer to the top of the HPH York Vale Cricket League division two with a helping hand from the team they are chasing - University of York Staff.
Their game against Hirst Courtney was switched from a wet Little Knavesmire to Staff's ground at Heslington Lane where the wicket had survived the downpours.
Ironically league leaders Staff had their game at a waterlogged Westow called off while Ovington trimmed their advantage to six points with a seven-wicket win over Hirst.
Graham Haigh took 6-73 as Hirst managed 146-9, Anthony Hinch top scoring with 68. Tailender Carl Welch was promoted to open the Ovington innings with Tom Cookson and contributed a rapid 61 to a first wicket partnership of 96, Cookson finishing unbeaten on 59.
Clifton Alliance remain in the promotion frame with an 11-run victory at Kelfield where Simon Cook (53), Mike Pickering (46no) and Allan Barton (40) helped them to 194-5. Kelfield fought hard with Matthew walker scoring 42 but three wickets apiece for Cook and Dave Friend tipped the game Alliance's way.
John Hughes (5-16) and Chris Hall (3-33) knocked over Fulfordgate for 90 in Copmanthorpe's easy victory.
Only two games survived in division one. British Sugar were disappointed to be bowled by Burn for 161 after being 133-2 after 29 overs, Matthew Smith taking 7-40.
However enough as Burn were reeling at 29-5 and never really recovered against the pace of Aaron Reid (6-34).
Bishopthorpe won at North Duffield who were bowled out for 135. Dave Prime (56no) then rode his luck in his 55-ball innings which included five sixes to get Bishops home.
Malton & Old Malton pulled off a surprise in division three by thumping high-flying Sheriff Hutton by 55 runs. An aggressive 54 from Simon Brookshaw and Alistair Blacklee's 47 saw Malt post 151-7, Tony Fisher taking 5-19. Despite Hugo Barnard's 54 Sheriff well well short.
Stillingfleet collapsed from 119-4 to 129 all out in their one-wicket defeat to Thorpe Willoughby whose Nadeem Shefta was the match-winner with an unbeaten 53 to follow his 3-34.
Bishopthorpe II and Burton Salmon tied in a reduced over game in division four.
Thanks to Guy Mowbray (48) and skipper Ben Smith (40), Bishopthorpe recovered from 16-3 to total 123-6. Salmon were favourites when they needed 24 off the final five overs with five wickets intact but entered the last over on 119-8 and lost a wicket to Smith's first delivery. The last pair managed to level the scores before a run out on the final ball as they tried to scamble a leg bye.
Hemingbrough II took another stride towards the title by beating Askham Bryan II by 44 runs despite Mike Hodgkinson's 5-20.
Martin Coyle was the star of Huntington's 127-run win over Pocklington in division five with 77 and 3-13.
Quickest game of the day was at Tadcaster where the nine-man home team were skittled for 23 and Carlton Towers' openers knocked the runs off in just 38 balls.

The Press Performance of the Week
Martin Coyle's all round effort for improving Huntington in division five against high-flying Pocklington. His 77 and 3-13 helped inflict Pock's only second defeat of the season and put his team firmly in the promotion picture.

Hirst Courtney II v Selby II and Malton & Old Malton II v Thorpe Willoughby II - No play, waterlogged pitches

BIG-HITTING Russ Stones powered Hirst Courtney into the final of York Vale Cricket League's Scothern Construction Cup final by taking the Kelfield attack apart.
He hammered seven sixes and nine boundaries in an unbeaten 109 as he featured in a fourth-wicket stand of 154 with Sam Dunn.
The pair were only together for 18 high-octane overs before Dunn, who clouted four maximums and nine fours, was out for 82.
Their efforts saw Hirst amass a massive 258-5 from their 40 overs. Despite 45 from Neil Atkinson, Kelfield were never in the hunt and finished on 163-9 as Hirst won by a 95-run margin.
Hirst will face Westow, another side noted for its strong batting, in the final on August 10.
Westow were also in good nick with the bat as they thumped Selby by 89 runs in their semi-final.
Strength in depth was they key for Westow as Andrew Welford (56), Mark Earle (40) and Neil Earle (37) made the major contributions to their side's formidable 212-8. That target would have been considerably bigger but for the late introduction of Selby's 12-year-old spinner Jack Rich who took 4-8 in three overs.
Selby's batsmen never got going and didn't have anyone to stick around with Steve Cruise (31no). They were bowled out for 129, Matt Turnbull taking 4-28.
The HPH Cup final on August 3 will be contested by holders Hemingbrough and second division outfit Clifton Alliance.
Hemingbrough included eight players aged under 20 in their semi-final against Copmanthorpe and were on the front foot from the word go.
Cop's John Hughes was out for a duck in Dan Collins' first over and the paceman finished with 4-29, gaining great support from his 14-year-old younger brother Tom, who took 3-15.
The target of 116 for victory looked a formality for Hemingbrough who were cruising at 95-3 before a flurry of wickets to Hughes (3-24) cranked up the tension before they got home with two wickets to spare.
Matthew Milburn top scored for Hemingbrough with 28, while Tom Collins weighed in with 25.
Clifton Alliance booked their place in the final with a five-wicket win against University of York Staff with 3.4 overs to spare
At 41-5 Staff looked unlikely to total three figures but Gul Muhammed Khan (29) and Muhammed Suleman (25) hoisted them to a respectable 143. Dave Friend was the pick of the Alliance bowling with 4-35.
The Clifton batsmen went about their business with the minimum of fuss, Allan Barton top scoring with 30 while Olly Jones, Simon Cook and Rob Thorpe all made twenties to wrap up a comfortable win.
YORKSHIRE Under-14 player Tom Collins is in prime form for HPH York Vale League side Hemingbrough.
He has been one of the leading lights this season for the unbeaten second team which maintained its leadership of division four with a 44-run win over Ashham Bryan II.
Batting was difficult after all the recent rain but Collins' class told against a lively Bryan attack which included Mike Hodgkinson who had taken a stunning 8-9 the previous week.
Hodgkinson was again in fine form with 5-20 but Collin stood firm with 40 in a total of 117.
It was not much to defend but teen bowlers Glen Crouch (3-17) and Paul Smales (3-25), backed up by Collins' 2-10 saw Askham Bryan bowled out for just 73.
A feature of the game was the Hemingbrough youngsters' fine fielding and catching which included a couple of victims for Baxter who was making his debut behind the stumps.
The following day Collins was one of eight Hemingbrough players aged under 20 to beat Copmanthorpe in the semi-final of the HPH Cup.
Selby are also bringing through several good young players and have high hopes for 15-year-old Sam Elliott who took 4-13 in the 60-run victory over Copmanthorpe II.
In division five, Pocklington's young line-up came unstuck against Huntington despite some fine bowling by Sam Vale (4-56).
Under 14 player Chris Simpson top scored with 30 to steer Stockton & Hopgrove II to a four-wicket win against Burn II.
Goole continued their march to the divisional title thanks to some impressive work by two of their younger players against York RI. Under-15 batsman Daniel Cooper hit 41 in Goole's 163-8 against York RI who were then bowled out for 124 with teenager David West grabbing 5-32.
Matthew Smith, 14, was the pick of Carlton Towers' attack as his 3-10 helped shoot out nine-man Tadcaster Magnet for a mere 23 - Towers taking less than seven overs to race to victory.

Weekend 28th June
AMAZING bowling by Askham Bryan II quickie Mike Hodgkinson shot out Bishopthorpe II for an embarassing 20.
Deadly accurate, he took an astonishing 8-9 in 11.4 overs on a wicket of variable bounce - bowling all his victims to bring their division five HPH York Vale Cricket League game to a rapid conclusion.
There was little to suggest the carnage to follow when Guy Mowbray took 4-29 as Askham were all out for 125.
But Hodgkinson then took centre stage on an afternoon of low scores as batsmen in all division struggled on drying wickets.
Askham's first team were among those to suffer as the combination of paceman Ian Holmes (4-21) and teenager spinner Ross Kelly (3-17) saw them dismissed by Bishopthorpe for just 61 in division one.
North Duffield's John Patrick almost matched Hodgkinson's efforts with 8-15 in 13 overs as Wheldrake were routed for 58 while British Sugar bowled out York for 77 with Mike Hamshere and Arron Reid taking four wickets apiece.
Leaders Drax saw their unbeaten record come to an end when they lost to champions Hemingbrough by 39 runs and Barmby Moor held all the aces in their six-wicket win against Burn with Mike Brent taking 5-34 and Andrew Winn scoring an unbeaten 57.
Copmanthorpe's hopes of closing the gap on division two leaders University of York Staff were dashed as they lost by six wickets to Heworth.
Andy Northfield (35) took up the batting challenge for Copmanthorpe after a reasonable start by Richard Hague and Chris Groom was in danger of stalling against Stephen Parkinson (4-21) but John Draper's undefeated 52 took Heworth to a winning 140-4.
Staff made 190-7 in their 13-run victory over Hirst Courtney who provided the most explosive batting with Russ Stones' 53 comprising just 14 scoring strokes, including one massive six out of the ground which shattered a convervatory window.
Tom Cookson's 86 was the day's highest individual innings as Ovington saw off Fulfordgate by 110 runs. Openers Allan Barton (56no) and Ali Lloyd (41no) put on 114 to crush Westow by ten wickets.
Eight-man Ben Johnson mustered just 56 against Kelfield, Mike Richardson taking 5-27.
Melbourne's Malcolm Harrison had a day to remember, scoring 46 and grabbing 7-15 as Malton & Old Malton were shot out for 36 in division three.
Stockton & Hopgrove's Dan Fairclough took 5-12 against Sheriff Hutton whose Neil Fairweather responded with 5-45 to earn his side a two-wicket win.
In division five, Greg Sykes (60) and Matthew Huffer (53) bucked the low scoring trend with a 118 partnership in Heworth's 148-9 which was enough to beat Woodhouse Grange by 34 runs.
None of York RI's batsmen made double figures as they folded for 28 against Huntington's Darren Horsford (6-13) and Jamie Ross (4-13) in division five.
Selby II lost to Thorpe Willoughby II by 24 runs but had the match's star turn in 12-year-old spinner Jack Rich who captured 6-57.
Pocklington and Burn II's clash provided the most runs, Chris Saltmer top scoring with 48 in Pock's 48 before weighing in with 3-11 as Burn fell 22 runs short despite Graham Stansfield's brave 51.

Weekend 14th June
CHAMPIONS Hemingbrough hauled themselves off the bottom of the HPH York Vale Cricket League division one in style on Saturday.
On a day dominated by bowlers on damp wickets, they crushed British Sugar by 103 runs after James Dougherty and Richard Firth both hit half centuries in their side's 168-6.
Ricky Noble's 4-26 left Sugar's top order in disarray and Matthew Clark stepped in with three wickets in seven balls to mop up the tail.
Bishopthorpe lost to leaders Drax despite 74 from Ian Holmes. The Bishops managed just 118-9 with Drax opening bowler Daz Brinded's 4-21 supported by wicketkeeper Kevin Thomas' four victims.
North Duffield kept in touch with Drax with a narrow two-wicket win over York who were restricted to 135-8. Lee Wild led the chase but was caught on the boundary for 48 and after being 82-1 it needed David Bielby's unbeaten 33 to get Duffield over the line.
Barmby Moor's Mike Brent made the most of being dropped first ball to score 79 - the weekend's highest knock - but Anthony Carter responded with 56 to earn Wheldrake a six-wicket win.
University of York Staff lost their 100 per cent winning record in division two with a two-wicket defeat at Copmanthorpe whose skipper Darren Hughes settled it with two sixes in the penultimate over.
Alistair Wray's unbeaten 62 saw Clifton Alliance home against Hirst Courtney and teenager Ben Holtby's 47no proved crucial as Westow beat Fulfordgate.
Superb swing bowling by Steve Wragg (6-38) fired out Ovington for 87 to set up a victory for Ben Johnson whose skipper Martin Reynolds raced to 48no - 22 coming in one over which included five boundaries.
Thixendale provided the day's biggest comeback to beat Stillingfleet in division three.
Needing 140 to win they looked out for the count at 11-5, but Karl Wallis (64no) took his side to a three-wicket win. Earlier Stillingfleet's tail had fallen away to Dean Tyler (5-56).
Melbourne's Tim Blackmore proved unplayable in the 28-run win over Thorpe Willougby. He bowled eight successive maidens to take 4-0 as Thorpe lost their last six wickets for just seven runs.
A stand of 94 by Chris Megone (53) and Bryan Dale (38) laid the platform for Sheriff Hutton's 150-9 which could have been more but for a 5-19 eight-over spell by Brian Moss. Sheriff were never in danger after Richard Coverdale took 4-8 in 14 deliveries.
Stockton & Hopgrove veteran Steve Fraser grafted hard for 41no against Malton & Old Malton who fell 32 runs short of their victory target.
Acomb ended North Cave's winning run with Adrian Harris' 5-23 being the key.
Teenager Layton Hallam took 5-10 in nine overs as Selby crumbled to 43 in pursuit of Hemingbrough II's modest 96 in division four.
Low scores continued to be the theme in division five with Tadcaster Magnet's young side scraping together just 48 in defeat against Burn II.
York RI remain winless after losing by seven wickets to Pocklington who held all the aces with Pete Eastwood taking 5-30 and opener Steve Relf (60no) sharing an undefeated 102 partnership with Elliott Newby (38no).

ON a weekend dominated by the ball, Askham Bryan all-rounder Mark Grewer was the match winner against Burn in division one.
After top scoring in his side's 155-9 with 43, he weighed in with 6-34 as Burn were bowled out for 103.

ALL-ROUND cricket talent Layton Hallam, who already has an HPH York Vale League century under his belt this season, proved a star turn with the ball on Saturday.
The opener was not in the runs this time as Hemingbrough II were bowled out for 96 on a damp pitch by Selby in their division four clash.
Hemingbrough's skipper had few runs to play with but his decision to hand the ball to 16-year-old Hallam proved a wise one as the youngster's slow bowling brought him 5-10 in just nine overs as Selby were whipped out for just 43.
Sam Craven (42) and Andy Collins (37no) both hit their best scores of the summer to earn Woodhouse Grange a narrow win over Copmanthorpe II. Chasing 120 for victory, Grange looked doomed at 32-6 but Craven and Collins' efforts saw their side emerge victors by two wickets with six balls to spare.
York's young bowlers almost snatched victory from the jaws of defeat in their first division game at North Duffield.
Jon Sharpe top scored with 34 off 36 balls as the young Clifton Park outfit totalled 135-8. Duffield used eight bowlers, the pick being teenager Josh Carline who returned 2-22 off five overs.
Lee Wild soon got stuck into the York bowling but after he was out for 48, 14-year-olds James Woodworth (3-31) and Tarun Devireddii (3-39) backed up by Andrew Simpson (2-27), who also took three superb catches, had the home side wobbling.
But York ran out of time as David Bielby's unbeaten 33 saw North Duffield home with a couple of wickets to sparte.
Fifteen-year-old Ben Holtby showed his class with an excellent 47 not out in Westow's division two victory over Fulfordgate whose innings featured a season's best of 20 for M Noble, aged 16.
Tadcaster Magnet fielded ten players aged under 17 as they lost by eight wickets to Burn II in division five.
Teenager Elliott Newby (38no) figured in an 102-run unbroken partnership with his skipper, Steve Relf (60no) to ease Pocklington to a seven-wicket win at York RI.
Sixteen-year-old Sam Morris was Carlton Towers' hero in their victory over Selby II and Sandhill Lane. Defending just 118, Towers won thanks to Morris' early spell of 3-9 in his opening six overs. Selby never really recovered from that and Morris returned to help wrap up victory with another wicket to finish with 4-22.

Weekend 31 May
UNIVERSITY of York Staff looks as though they will take some stopping in division two of the HPH York Vale Cricket League as they powered to their fifth straight league win.
Their strong line-up amassed 249-9 against Ovington and were the only side to top 200 runs on a weekend which proved difficult for batting.
Leading the way was Mumtaz Hussein who made 93 in 56 balls before falling to Dave Brumitt's first delivery. Brummitt finished with 7-51 but with R Parthipan chipping in with 51 and Afaq Ahmed finishing unbeaten on 46no Staff were firmly in the box seat and won by 110 runs.
Clifton Alliance's David Heartshorne took 5-22 in Heworth's 123. Alliance's reply was tottering on 26-5 before a match-winning stand of 80 between Chris Elliott (51no) and Rob Thorpe (23).
Mark Earle shone in Westow's eight-wicket win over Kelfield with an unbeaten 63 and 3-47.
An unbroken partnership of 84 by Martin Reynolds (56no) and Neil Drew (31no) saw Ben Johnson to victory over Fulfordgate.
Unbeaten Division one leaders Drax enjoyed a comfortable six-wicket win over British Sugar which featured 5-20 from skipper Paul Smith.
North Duffield's Trevor Britain (70) hit 11 boundaries and a six in his third wicket stand of 90 with David Bielby against nine-man Askham Bryan, whose David Knight took 5-37. Lee Wild nipped any chance of an upset in the bud with 6-34 as Duffield won in 25 overs.
Chasing Wheldrake's 133-9, Burn looked in trouble at 93-7 with Les Fearn taking 5-48 but big-hitting David Bramley (32no) got them home by one wicket.
Sheriff Hutton had to be satisfied with a tie after bowling out Thixendale for 136 in division three with Ben Harrison, aged 13, taking 5-23. Sheriff went into the last over, bowled by Adrian Brader, needing just four to win. But Brader, whose previous over had gone for 16, conceded just three singles before Tony Fisher was run out on the last ball of the match.
Stillingfleet collapsed to defeat in spectacular fashion against Stockton & Hopgrove. They raced to 32-1 after six overs but lost the next nine wickets for just 30 runs leaving Stockton to romp home.
Bishopthorpe became the first side to score over 100 against Hemingbrough II's attack in division four this summer, making 128-5. Glen Crouch took 6-47 for Brough who recovered from 49-4 to win thanks to a patient 56 by John Waterhouse.
Spin was king on Knavesmire as Ovington II slide from 71-2 to 81 all out after slow bowlers Simon Rouse (5-7) and Kevin Dent (3-12) got to work for victorious Wheldrake II.
Experienced Keith Hyman took 5-38 to set up Copmanthorpe II's nine-wicket win against Heworth which featured a stand of 109 between Anton Rodgers (58no) and Matt Huffer (57).
Selby's Richard Sherwood took 5-32 in his side's win at Askham Bryan II.
York RI are still hunting their first win in division five but pushed Stockton & Hopgrove II hard as
Will Outhart cracked 85, putting on 110 for the sixth wicket with Matt Corr, in RI's 151-9. But evergreen Tony Kerrison responded with 84 to earn the villagers' victory.

Press Performance of the Week
OVINGTON veteran Dave Brummitt's 7-51 earns this week's award which will be some consolation for his side's defeat against University of York Staff.
He removed star man Mumtaz Hussein with his first ball and his figures included a triple wicket maiden - no mean feat against division two's strongest batting line-up.

WOODHOUSE Grange have long been one of the area's flagship cricket clubs and are nurturing more new talent in the HPH York Vale Cricket League.
Nine of the side which beat Burton Salmon in division four last Saturday were aged 17 or under.
Salmon made 139-8 on a difficult wicket with 16-year-old Harry Collins being hard to get away as his figures of 10-4-13-2 reflect. Roger Moorhouse, also 16, led the reply with 40, which included seven boundaries. But it was Josh Miller, aged 15, who sped them to victory by striking four, six, six and four off the last four legitimate deliveries of the innings to take Grange to a four-wicket win.
Wheldrake II wicketkeeper James Rouse had a good all-round day in his side's eight-wicket victory over Ovington II. The 15-year-old claimed three victims - two of them stumped - and finished unbeaten on 29 as Wheldrake won in the 18th over.
Jed Vale continued his fine form with an unbeaten 50 in Pocklington's eight-wicket win over a youthful Tadcaster Magnet outfit in division five.
His brother, Sam, took 3-12, and James Richmond 4-10, as Tad limped from 24-5 to 99 all out at the close, extras boosting the total by 40. Both Pock wickets to fall were taken by young Josh Derry.
Pocklington have won all their divisional games to date and hold a 23-point lead over newcomers Goole Town at the top.
Sheriff Hutton could not capitalise on some excellent bowing by 13-year-old Ben Harrison in their third division game with Thixendale which was reduced to 30 overs a side by the weather.
His 5-23 helped bowl Thixendale out for 134 but Sheriff had to settle for a tie with four wickets standing after failing to get the four runs they required for victory off the final over.
